‘Absolute liars': Ex-D.C. Guard official says generals lied to Congress about Jan. 6
In a 36-page memo to the Capitol riot committee, Col. Earl Matthews also slams the Pentagon’s inspector general for what he calls an error-ridden report.
A former D.C. National Guard official is accusing two senior Army leaders of lying to Congress and participating in a secret attempt to rewrite the history of the military’s response to the Capitol riot.
In a 36-page memo, Col. Earl Matthews, who held high-level National Security Council and Pentagon roles during the Trump administration, slams the Pentagon’s inspector general for what he calls an error-riddled report that protects a top Army official who argued against sending the National Guard to the Capitol on Jan. 6, delaying the insurrection response for hours.
Matthews’ memo, sent to the Jan. 6 select committee this month and obtained by POLITICO, includes detailed recollections of the insurrection response as it calls two Army generals — Gen. Charles Flynn, who served as deputy chief of staff for operations on Jan. 6, and Lt. Gen. Walter Piatt, the director of Army staff — “absolute and unmitigated liars” for their characterization of the events of that day. Matthews has never publicly discussed the chaos of the Capitol siege.
On Jan. 6, Matthews was serving as the top attorney to Maj. Gen. William Walker, then commanding general of the D.C. National Guard. Matthews’ memo defends the Capitol attack response by Walker, who now serves as the House sergeant at arms, amplifying Walker’s previous congressional testimony about the hourslong delay in the military’s order for the D.C. National Guard to deploy to the riot scene.
“Every leader in the D.C. Guard wanted to respond and knew they could respond to the riot at the seat of government” before they were given clearance to do so on Jan. 6, Matthews’ memo reads. Instead, he said, D.C. guard officials “set [sic] stunned watching in the Armory” during the first hours of the attack on Congress during its certification of the 2020 election results.
Matthews’ memo levels major accusations: that Flynn and Piatt lied to Congress about their response to pleas for the D.C. Guard to quickly be deployed on Jan. 6; that the Pentagon inspector general’s November report on Army leadership’s response to the attack was “replete with factual inaccuracies”; and that the Army has created its own closely held revisionist document about the Capitol riot that’s “worthy of the best Stalinist or North Korea propagandist.”
The memo follows Walker’s own public call for the inspector general to retract its detailed report on the events of Jan. 6, as first reported by The Washington Post. Walker told the Post he objected to specific allegations by the Pentagon watchdog that Matthews’ memo also criticizes, calling the inspector general’s report “inaccurate” and “sloppy work.”
The new memo from Matthews, who now serves in the Army reserves, emerges as officials involved in the response that day try to explain their decision-making to investigators. The House select committee has probed the attack for months, and earlier this year top officials testified before the House oversight panel.
Reached for comment, Matthews said the memo he wrote is entirely accurate. “Our Army has never failed us and did not do so on January 6, 2021,” he said. “However, occasionally some of our Army leaders have failed us and they did so on January 6th. Then they lied about it and tried to cover it up. They tried to smear a good man and to erase history.”
Flynn, now the commanding general of the U.S. Army Pacific, and Piatt didn’t respond to messages. Army spokesperson Mike Brady said in a statement that the service’s “actions on January 6th have been well-documented and reported on, and Gen. Flynn and Lt. Gen. Piatt have been open, honest and thorough in their sworn testimony with Congress and DOD investigators.”

Pope Francis declined to see Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is demanding a harder Vatican line on China. The Holy See said meeting just before a U.S. election would be inappropriate.

ROME — Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently published a sharp letter excoriating the Vatican’s plans to renew an agreement with the Chinese government on Church operations in China. He promoted the article in a tweet, concluding, “The Vatican endangers its moral authority, should it renew the deal.”
An indignant Vatican took the article more as a calculated affront than a diplomatic gesture. The friction broke into the open on Wednesday as Mr. Pompeo arrived in Rome and met with prelates and others who are hostile to Pope Francis, while the Vatican denied him a meeting with the pontiff and rebuffed his efforts to derail the deal with China.
“Pompeo asked to meet” the pope, who turned him down because Francis had “clearly said that he does not receive political figures ahead of the elections,” Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who, as secretary of state, is the Vatican’s second-ranking official, told reporters.
But to some observers on both sides of the tensions between the Roman Catholic Church and the Trump administration, Mr. Pompeo’s visit is as much about the coming presidential election as about China policy. Mr. Pompeo dismissed that suggestion as absurd, but intended or not, his trip signals that President Trump is on the side of those conservative American Catholics who worry about the church’s direction under Francis and think he is soft on China.
Francis and Mr. Trump, who have exchanged sharp words in the past, present starkly different visions on issues ranging from the environment to immigration to the threat of populism. In appealing to the Vatican’s support for religious freedom as a reason to drop its China agreement, Mr. Pompeo seemed to seek common ground, but in a way that upset the pope’s chief allies and delighted his chief critics.
Cardinal Parolin said Mr. Pompeo’s article had caused “surprise” at the Vatican, because this visit to Rome by the secretary and the meetings with high officials at the Holy See had already been in the works and would have been a “more opportune” forum for airing grievances. He added that Mr. Pompeo’s choice to publish in First Things, a conservative Christian magazine that has called Francis a failure as Pope, also mattered.

"John Fitzgerald Kennedy was elected the 35th President of the United States of America at a time of great change that involved the whole world. A few years before the event that brought the first Catholic President in American history to the White House, Pope John XXIII had been elected, the Pontiff who convoked the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council and who believed he could open the doors of the Church to dialogue with the world. The early 1960s take us back to the Cold War, the Berlin Wall, the Cuban crisis, the threat of a looming nuclear conflict, and that perhaps forced and certainly simplistic dualism between right and left that has since begun to show signs of losing steam. Italy, along with the other NATO member countries, was in the midst of an economic boom in those years and 1968, the year of the great student and cultural revolution, the end of the old world, was still yet to come.
This work by David W. Mantik and Jerome R. Corsi touches on specialized topics of great interest not only to historians. It presents very credible evidence that Kennedy was killed on the orders of the CIA and leads us to ask a fundamental question: Why did the Secret Service assassinate President Kennedy? History will be able to answer this question when new documents will be declassified and it will be possible to reconstruct the troubled and complex events of those years. Nevertheless, I believe that each of us, observing the sequence of events from above, so to speak, is able to understand how correct is the intuition of the authors, who rightly identify in the murder of JFK the subversive action of a coup d’état at the hands of deviant components of the state apparatus. The term deep state – derin devlet in Turkish – was coined to indicate the network of power close to the Masonic Lodges that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk created, again in a subversive way, to flank the action of indoctrination to the so-called “democratic principles” of the Young Turks, just as in Italy, during the so-called Risorgimento, Giuseppe Mazzini created the Giovine Italia movement to bring down the pre-unification States and replace them with the Piedmontese Monarchy that was subservient to Freemasonry. The deep state is therefore a lobby entrenched in power, which controls and directs events through its emissaries. Its counterpart in the religious sphere is what I have called the deep church, which has the same goals and uses the same methods. Let us not forget that after the death of Pope Pius XII in 1958, the Conclave that led to the election of Angelo Roncalli was the scene of maneuvers and pressures aimed precisely at ensuring that the new Pope would represent a moment of novelty and rupture with the past. And it was no coincidence that John XXIII himself – too often dangerously close to the Masonic Lodges on the one hand and to exponents of Modernism on the other – wanted, so to speak, to defy Providence, by convoking an Ecumenical Council that the Roman Curia knew would bring into the ecclesial body the most extreme instances of modernization of the Church in the doctrinal, moral, and liturgical fields.
The Final Analysis has the merit of directly confronting the reality of the coup d’état that was perpetrated by the deep state through the assassination of President Kennedy, who was considered an obstacle to the achievement of objectives that today we understand were achieved in any case, with or without the approval of the “sovereign” people. A coup that has led the institutions of the United States of America – not unlike those of other nations and of the Catholic Church herself – to be the unique and totalitarian expression of a subversive power that dangerously combines the individualistic interests of capital with the tyrannical methods of communist collectivism. This privatization of the State is mirrored in the chronic and irreversible indebtedness of the citizens, who are called upon to pay the bankruptcy costs of the speculations of the very powerful international financial lobby. And it should not escape our notice that there is a parallel with the privatization of the Catholic Church, which has now been taken over by an elite no less subversive than that of the deep state, in which positions of power have been infiltrated by heretical and corrupt prelates who use the authority of Christ to guarantee obedience from the faithful.
It is clear to me – and this is the reason why, as Archbishop and former Apostolic Nuncio to the United States of America, I agreed to write this Preface – that this coup necessarily had to avail itself of the ideological support and moral authority of the Catholic Church, which otherwise would have represented an obstacle to the fulfillment of the project of the New World Order. This is why I believe that the events related to Kennedy’s assassination should be read as part of one narrative together with those that led the Church of Rome to progressively become the spokesperson for the globalist plan, a plan on which the same lobbies were working that today are leading to the dissolution of the social, moral, religious, cultural, and economic fabric of Western countries.

In 1958, therefore, we had a progressive Pope, the so-called “good pope,” the pope of dialogue and renewal, who was appreciated by circles hitherto hostile to the Roman Church. Then in 1960, Democrat John Fitzgerald Kennedy won the election against Republican Richard Nixon, apparently confirming the same trend. In 1962, the Second Vatican Council began. In 1963, the American President was assassinated in Dallas. These would all seem to be unrelated events to an inattentive observer; but if we understand what the aims of the deep state and the deep church were – that is, the two versions of an occult and subversive power – we cannot fail to find an incredible coherence in their respective actions. And perhaps we should ask ourselves if the fact that JFK was Catholic might have led the American deep state to want to eliminate from the international political scene a character who did not accept the role of being a puppet of the elite, unlike the current “president,” the self-styled Catholic Joe Biden.
Church and State have today both been eclipsed by a power that has usurped them and now uses them for the opposite purpose to that which the two institutions ought to have, and we owe the fact that this is so evident today to decades – if not centuries – of subterranean action, of subversive powers which stop at nothing to achieve what they set out to do. The assassination of JFK by the CIA has been repeated with the fraudulent elimination of President Trump on the occasion of the 2020 election fraud; but even before that with the forced resignation in 2013 of Pope Benedict XVI, an event that was hoped for by the magic circle of the Clintons and John Podesta in their famous Wikileaks emails, and which was followed by the appointment – because to speak of election would be grotesque – of the Jesuit Jorge Mario Bergoglio by the Saint Gallen Mafia, with the key contribution of the serial predator and former cardinal Theodore McCarrick, who was a frequent visitor to the Obama White House.
In a famous speech at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on April 27, 1961, JFK said: “For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence: on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day.” Today we can understand his words in their disturbing truth: “It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific, and political operations. Its preparations are concealed, not published; its mistakes are buried, not headlined; its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned; no rumor is printed; no secret is revealed.” And so we understand why that system eliminated Kennedy, seeing him as a serious threat.
“Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country” – these are the famous words pronounced by President Kennedy during his inaugural address on January 20, 1961. They are still valid today for every American citizen and must lead everyone to understand the need not to remain on the sidelines as inert spectators of political and social events, but on the contrary to take an active part in them with a courageous witness of faith, rectitude, and honesty. Knowing the enemy and understanding their intentions is crucial if you want to fight them effectively.
I hope that this book, written with passion and incorporating new evidence, can stimulate a re-reading of history in which the coup d’état of the globalist elite appears in all its evidence, so that those responsible are called to account for it, and above all so that future rulers have the bonum commune at heart, in the awareness that this will be the measure for how they will be judged by God."

The trial for Donald Trump ally Steve Bannon over allegations he defrauded people who donated to a campaign to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border has been postponed by several months.
Bannon, a former White House senior adviser, has pleaded not guilty to several charges of money laundering, conspiracy and scheming to defraud in connection with $15 million in donations a "We Build the Wall" fundraising campaign received.
The trial at the New York Supreme Criminal Court was originally set to begin on May 27 by Judge Juan Merchan. However, the judge, who is also presiding over Trump's hush-money trial, which is expected to last several more weeks, has delayed the start of Bannon's proceedings until September, senior Courthouse News reporter Josh Russell first reported.
Bannon will next appear in court in connection to the fraud case on September 23.
In September 2022, Bannon was charged in connection with money laundering allegations that stemmed from a GoFundMe campaign to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, a key 2016 campaign promise from Trump.
Bannon was previously charged in an almost identical federal investigation before being pardoned by Trump hours before the then-president left office in January 2021.
Manhattan prosecutors revived the investigation in September 2022 with state-level charges against Bannon, which are not covered by presidential pardons.
Bannon was also found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress in July 2022 after defying a subpoena issued to him by the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack. He has not spent any time in jail, pending the result of an appeal.
In April 2023, Brian Kolfage, a U.S. Air Force veteran and founder of the We Build the Wall organization, was sentenced to over four years in jail after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and other tax- and wire-fraud charges in connection with the millions donated to the campaign, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York said in a press release.
Andrew Badolato, a co-defendant, also pleaded guilty to wire-fraud conspiracy and was sentenced to three years.
A third defendant, Timothy Shea, was found guilty at trial of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and obstruction of justice. In July, he was sentenced to 63 months in prison and three years of supervised release. Shea was also ordered to forfeit $1,801,707 and pay restitution in the amount of $1,801,707.
All three men were found to have devised a scheme to move donations to the "We Build the Wall" campaign through entities and bank accounts they controlled, the office said. They then took steps to obscure or conceal the payments, including by using fake invoices and sham contracts.
