They're not wrong, some conservatives are using it to upend the women's movement, which is deserved at this point because the women's movement has jumped the shark. So they come up with this even more ridiculous trans idea (are we isomers?) and use it to attack the exposed left flank of feminism, rather than the right flank where all feminism's attention was focused!
