I can see you're new to publishing. The 'freeness' and uncontrollability of the internet has its cost - the fact that it is very difficult to control copyright. This is why the RIIA went after so many people for copying music illegally.

Without doxxing myself, I'm very versed in this technology and have been on public panels debating it. I now produce hardware because it can't be easily copied by individuals. Until (if) technology exists that prevents the zero-cost copying of digital information, I will avoid it as a primary means of supporting myself for exactly the reason you cite.

The problem is, it is far too easy to just copy other people's stuff and make money on it. The penalties for doing this should be extremely severe, IMO. They are not.

Then again, the cost for protecting your work should also be trivial, which they are not.

I hate attorneys.

Welcome to the world of the cabal, where what matters is control over the distribution mechanisms and the advertising mediums. This is why copying is so easy and protecting yourself is so difficult. They have planned the easy copying into their business model because it prevents smaller factions from competing with their monolithic corporations.

As an additional note, I wouldn't worry about this too much. Consider the amount of time it took you to create the artwork you're upset about and the reason(s) you created it.

You've attracted assholes who will sell your art to others and those others will spread the message with (likely) the same intent you created it with.

If you ignore the asshat in the middle of this, you have just succeeded in enabling other patriots who would have never created their own shirt and prefer to buy something pre-made for them. Personally, all things considered, I'd call that a huge 'win' for everyone involved. (Unfortunately, including the asshat, but …choose your battles.)
