Ukraine could request Western military intervention – MP

Kiev may ask for help if it becomes clear that the country is not able to stop Russia on its own, Aleksey Goncharenko says (it’s already clear)

Kiev could request that Western troops be deployed on its soil if it deems the situation on the battlefield to have become bad enough, a senior Ukrainian lawmaker has said.

In an interview with French broadcaster LCI on Saturday, Aleksey Goncharenko, who represents Odessa in the Ukrainian parliament, thanked French President Emmanuel Macron for not ruling out sending Western military to his country.

The French leader earlier suggested that this issue could be put up for consideration on two conditions, first, “if the Russians were to break through the front lines [and, second,] if there were a Ukrainian request.”

Describing Macron’s remarks as a “very good signal” to Russia, Goncharenko noted that foreign troops in Ukraine could be tasked with training Kiev’s military and performing other missions without engaging Moscow’s forces head-on.

When asked whether Ukraine would ask the West for direct assistance if Russian troops were to approach Kharkov or Kiev, the MP said he did not rule out any scenarios. “Yes, I think it is possible… If the frontline situation shows us that Ukraine cannot stop[Russian President Vladimir] Putin alone without European military support and troops, this is absolutely possible,” he said, voicing the hope that such a drastic measure wouldn’t be necessary.

He also stressed that it would be in the EU’s interest to heed the appeal for assistance that he described, as it would be easier to stop Moscow with Ukraine than without it.

On Saturday, Emmanuel Macron said that he supported “strategic ambiguity” towards Russia, which, he said, is aimed at deterring Moscow. According to the French president, his stance on potential Western military action in Ukraine was in line with this approach.

However, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron has voiced skepticism about the idea, warning that NATO troops in Ukraine “could be a dangerous escalation.” This sentiment was echoed by Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, while Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico recalled that NATO has no justification to send troops to Ukraine, because Kiev is not a member of the bloc.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Macron’s statement “very important and very dangerous,” describing it as further testament to Paris’ direct involvement in the conflict. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has also warned that “nothing will remain” of NATO forces if they are deployed in Ukraine.

In recent weeks, the Russian military has reported a steady advance, capturing numerous settlements in Donbass, with Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu recently declaring that Moscow is in full control of the situation on the battlefield.

(I bet the EU is regretting getting in bed with corrupt and insane Ukrainians)

==Biden’s allies move to sink RFK Jr.

The effort reflects a level of concern among Democrats about Kennedy — but also an opportunity they see to wound Donald Trump.== (you forgot about Muslims that are mad at you idiots!)

By ELENA SCHNEIDER

The coalition of Democratic groups that pressured No Labels out of the 2024 contest is now turning its sights on Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Billboards funded by the Democratic National Committee have begun popping up outside Kennedy’s events. Trackers paid for by American Bridge, a Democratic super PAC, are following him with cameras. And another super PAC, founded exclusively to take on third-party threats, is message-testing ads on Kennedy in coordination with Future Forward, the flagship pro-Biden super PAC.

It’s a widespread effort among Democratic donors and strategists to neutralize Kennedy’s third-party threat to President Joe Biden’s reelection.

And Biden’s allies are now considering going even further, with a coalition of major Democratic groups privately discussing running a negative ad campaign against Kennedy.

Talks are preliminary, and the size and scope of the campaign — and even if it will go forward — remain unclear. But should it get the green light, the effort would likely be spearheaded by Future Forward; Clear Choice, another super PAC founded to stop third-party candidates; and American Bridge, another Democratic super PAC, according to two people involved in the effort who are not authorized to talk about it publicly.

So far, Clear Choice PAC has dropped a nominal $30,000 on digital ads attacking Kennedy. The discussion is whether to go bigger.

There is a deep concern that Kennedy and other third-party candidates “pose real threats to the Republic by helping Trump win,” said Matt Bennett, president of Third Way, a center-left group that’s involved in efforts to cut Kennedy down.

Bennett, along with several other outside groups, worked to pressure No Labels, another group eying a third-party run, out of the 2024 contest. Now, they’re turning their attention to Kennedy. “One of our biggest concerns is ensuring that this subset of voters absolutely positively understands who this person is and who he is not,” Bennett said.

“He is not his father. His numbers reflect his dad’s popularity,” Bennett said. “He is a right-wing crank. People really do not understand that yet.”

The offensive reflects a level of concern among Democrats about Kennedy siphoning votes from Biden — but also the opportunity they see in his potential to wound former President Donald Trump. Kennedy, whose storied surname has given him strong name recognition even among low-information voters, is a volatile force in the 2024 election. Public and private polling has found Kennedy, an environmentalist turned anti-vaccine activist, drawing support from both Biden and Trump.

Biden last month enlisted members of the extended Kennedy clan for help, appearing alongside more than a dozen Kennedys who endorsed him over the family member whose campaign they’ve largely shunned.

The push to undercut Kennedy — as well as Green Party candidate Jill Stein and academic Cornel West, both of whom are also running third-party bids — comes from Democrats who say they are motivated by the 2000 and 2016 elections, when third-party candidates played a role in Al Gore and Hillary Clinton’s respective losses.

One reason these outside Democratic groups have not yet been more aggressive in attacking Kennedy is due, in part, to the uncertainty as to where he will appear on the ballot and the staying power of his appeal in polling. So far, Kennedy has qualified for the ballot in Michigan, California and Utah, according to his campaign. His campaign also said that he’s collected enough signatures in seven other states, including Nevada, North Carolina, Nebraska and New Hampshire.

“It needs to be done in a very targeted way,” Bennett added. “We have to convince soft Biden voters that these candidates are not safe places to park their vote, so to do that, we’re going to focus on a very narrow range of voters in swing states.”

Recent public polling tells a complicated story about Kennedy’s appeal. In some surveys, Kennedy draws more support from Biden, like in an NPR/Maris College poll released this week, whenBiden’s lead disappeared when third-party candidates were added to the survey.…

Al Jazeera condemns Israeli government decision to shut down local offices

Israeli cabinet votes unanimously to close the network’s operations in Israel with immediate effect.

Al Jazeera Media Network has condemned the Israeli government’s decision to close its operations in Israel as a “criminal act” and warned that the country’s suppression of the free press “stands in contravention of international and humanitarian law”.

“Al Jazeera Media Network strongly condemns and denounces this criminal act that violates human rights and the basic right to access of information. Al Jazeera affirms its right to continue to provide news and information to its global audiences,” the network said in a statement on Sunday.

“Israel’s ongoing suppression of the free press, seen as an effort to conceal its actions in the Gaza Strip, stands in contravention of international and humanitarian law. Israel’s direct targeting and killing of journalists, arrests, intimidation and threats will not deter Al Jazeera from its commitment to cover, whilst more than 140 Palestinian journalists have been killed since the beginning of the war on Gaza.

“The Network vehemently rejects the allegations presented by Israeli authorities suggesting professional media standards have been violated. It reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the values embodied by its Code of Ethics,” it said.

The statement comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet voted unanimously to close Al Jazeera’s operations in Israel, weeks after Israel’s parliament passed a law allowing the temporary closure of foreign broadcasters considered to be a threat to national security during the months-long war in Gaza.

Netanyahu announced the decision on X, formerly Twitter. “The government headed by me unanimously decided: the incitement channel Al Jazeera will be closed in Israel,” he posted in Hebrew.

Israel’s Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi wrote on X that he had signed the orders against Al Jazeera, which would be effective immediately.

Karhi said he ordered the seizure of Al Jazeera’s broadcasting equipment “used to deliver the channel’s content”, including editing and routing equipment, cameras, microphones, servers and laptops, as well as wireless transmission equipment and some mobile phones.

Later on Sunday, police raided Al Jazeera’s premises in occupied East Jerusalem and satellite and cable providers took Al Jazeera off air.

Messages have appeared instead of Al Jazeera’s broadcast on a number of satellite providers, including messages with the words “Yes” and “Hot”.

The message flagged with “Yes” reads: “In accordance with the government decision, the Al Jazeera station’s broadcasts have been stopped in Israel.”

Israel’s decision escalates the country’s long-running feud against Al Jazeera. It also threatens to heighten tensions with Qatar, which funds the media network, at a time when Doha is playing a key role in mediation efforts to halt the war in Gaza.

Israel has long had a rocky relationship with Al Jazeera, accusing it of bias against it and collaboration with Hamas. The Qatar-based network has repeatedly rejected the accusations.

Al Jazeera is one of the few international media outlets to remain in Gaza throughout the war, broadcasting bloody scenes of air attacks and overcrowded hospitals, and accusing Israel of massacres.

Last month, Netanyahu had said he would “act immediately to stop” Al Jazeera’s operations in Israel after its parliament approved a law that grants senior ministers powers to shut down foreign news networks deemed a security risk.

“Al Jazeera harmed Israel’s security, actively participated in the October 7 massacre, and incited against Israeli soldiers,” Netanyahu had posted on X.

The network accused Netanyahu of “incitement”, holding the Israeli leader “responsible for the safety of its staff and network premises around the world, following his incitement and this false accusation in a disgraceful manner”.

Al Jazeera’s Zein Basravi, reporting from Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, said the Palestine-Israel conflict is “one of the main reasons that our network exists”.

“So to have our journalists, our operations, threatened in this way … Definitely, the worry here in the occupied West Bank is that we will be next,” he said.

‘Atrocious’

Press freedom groups condemned Israel’s decision to shut down Al Jazeera.

Tim Dawson, the deputy general secretary of the International Federation of Journalists, told Al Jazeera from London, that it is “utterly a retrograde and ridiculous decision”.

BooHoooo.

Trump Campaign Files First Election Lawsuit of the Cycle, Targets Nevada Mail-in Voting

Madeleine Greenberg May 3, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Trump campaign is challenging Nevada’s mail-in ballot receipt deadline in its first election lawsuit of the year with the help of the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Nevada Republican Party. With the road to 270 electoral votes almost certainly going through the state, Republicans are zeroing in on voting rules in Nevada.

This lawsuit seeking to invalidate mail-in ballots that are timely cast and received after Election Day is the latest in a slew of anti-voting lawsuits Republicans are filing in the leadup to the 2024 presidential election. Though this is the first anti-voting lawsuit filed this year by Trump’s presidential campaign, the RNC has already filed five other active lawsuits targeting the right to vote across six states.

The RNC and Trump campaign’s lawsuit — aimed at disenfranchising Nevada voters who cast mail in ballots — argues that the state’s mail-in ballot receipt deadline violates federal law. Currently, for the Nov. 5 election, mail-in ballots that are postmarked by Election Day will be counted if they are received on or before 5 p.m. on Nov. 9, 2024. If a ballot’s postmarked date cannot be determined, it will be counted if received on or before Nov. 8, 2024. The lawsuit alleges that counting ballots received after Election Day “dilutes” votes and “disproportionately harms Republican candidates and voters.”

Despite evidence that widespread voter fraud is not prevalent, the complaint pushes the fraud theory: “Dilution of honest votes, to any degree, by the casting of fraudulent or illegitimate votes violates the right to vote.”

The Trump campaign and Republican parties request that the court block the state from counting mail-in ballots that are received after Election Day. This latest lawsuit comes amidst a shakeup at the Republican National Committee that put former North Carolina GOP chair Michael Whatley and Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump in charge of the committee.

With promises to pursue a more aggressive litigation strategy, the RNC has identified Nevada as a key target as Republicans are now pursuing three anti-voting lawsuits in the state — one of which seeks to overturn a law protecting election workers. That case has been dismissed twice, but Republicans appealed the latest dismissal to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals earlier this week. Republicans are also suing the state over its voter roll maintenance policy in an attempt to have voters removed from the rolls.

The RNC is also going after mail-in ballot receipt deadlines beyond Nevada — the committee filed a similar lawsuit in Mississippi and continues to target other mail-in voting rules in court. According to Democracy Docket’s database, the RNC is currently involved in 28 active voting-related cases across the country.

Trump calls classified documents special prosecutor Jack Smith a 'fking ahole', brands Fani Willis a 'real beauty' and likens himself to Al Capone during fiery Mar-a-Lago speech.

By Dominic Yeatman 05 May 2024

The former president was holding nothing back as he slammed the 'Gestapo administration' and the prosecutors who want him jailed

The Republican nominee mocked Georgia DA Fani Willis as 'Mrs Wade' after she was forced to sack prosecutor Nathan Wade over their affair

And he namechecked the frontrunners in the race to be his vice-presidential nominee, insisting he was not short of volunteers

Donald Trump sprayed the room with expletives and he likened himself to Al Capone on Saturday as he tore into the prosecutors threatening to send him to jail.

The former president accused the Democrats of running a 'Gestapo administration', and branded special counsel Jack Smith a 'fking ahole' as he addressed a $40,000 a head fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago.

He teased his audience over who he would choose as his vice-presidential running mate and dished out praise to embattled House speaker Mike Johnson, ordering Republican critics to 'leave him alone'.

He mocked Fulton County DA Fani Willis as 'a real beauty', and joked that his daughter-in-law Lara would not have married his son Eric had she known that her prospective father-in-law risked jail.

'Once I got indicted, I said holy s***, I just got indicted. Me, I got indicted,' he said. 'In fact, Lara, if she knew I got indicted, she probably wouldn't have joined the family.

Around 400 donors and lawmakers were at the lunch on Trump's Florida estate to which he returned on Friday night after the first week of his hush money trial in New York.

In his 90-minute speech he said he was surprised to have been the first ex-president criminally indicted, and blamed his 2020 defeat on Democrats who 'rigged and stole that election. And we're not going to let that happen again,' according to a tape leaked to the Washington Post.

The Republican's presumptive nominee faces 88 criminal charges in four separate state and federal cases including a Georgia state charge under Willis of interfering with the 2020 election results.

She was forced to dismiss her special prosecutor Nathan Wade in March after the pair were found to have had a relationship during her pursuit of the case.

Trump referred to her as 'Mrs Wade', and likened himself to the notorious Chicago gangster Al Capone who was eventually jailed for tax evasion.

'I got indicted like Alphonse and like all these people,' he said.

But he threw a protective arm around Johnson who was among the audience and faces a bid by Rep Marjorie Taylor-Greene to unseat him when Congress returns next week, breaking off from his speech to tell him 'you're doing a very good job'.

And he had sympathy for Democrat Rep Henry Cuellar, suggesting his indictment last week on charges of accepting $600,000 in bribes from an Azerbaijani oil company was 'for political reasons, because he was tough on the border'.

But he had less sympathy for his former Attorney General Bill Barr who described Trump's January 6 behavior as 'nauseating', telling his audience he would need an AG with 'courage'.

And he laid out some of the qualities he would be looking for in a vice-president insisting there was no shortage of volunteers.

'It's funny when I listen to the fake news, they all say, 'Well, you know, he's going to have a hard time getting people in his administration because he's very tough and I'm not sure he can get anybody to be vice president of the United States', he told his audience.

'I've got 50 people calling me, begging me 'I'll cut off my right arm, sir. Please, I want to be the vice president'.

'These are ambitious politicians.'

The former president has been uncharacteristically reticent on who might make the cut.

But he name checked Rep Elise Stefanik of New York whose profile has soared since she grilled Ivy League college chiefs about their handling of anti-Semitism on campus.

'Everybody said she's going to be the vice-presidential candidate,' he teased.

But he also called former Republican rival Sen Tim Scott of South Carolina 'one of the greatest surrogates', and said that 'Hillbilly Elegy' author-turned-senator JD Vance of Ohio 'turned out to be incredible'.

He dubbed North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, another rival from the Republican primaries, 'really impressive'.

And he held the door open to his 2016 Republican rival 'Little Marco' Rubio, insisting the Florida senator is a 'talented guy'.

'Every time they say 'Is he being considered?' I say 'Absolutely'.' Trump said.

The former president has faced legal costs of around $500 million in the last two years in fines, judgements and legal bills, and Reuters reported last month that Trump's fundraising was trailing that of Joe Biden by more than $30 million.

Why is Trump being so supportive of Johnson?

Has this been a major psyop from the beginning?

Since he is CiC it very well could be a major psyop. But whats the goal or plan?
