And, all military age Ukrainian men abroad must come back to Ukraine to renew their passports, including refugees driven from their homes in the early days of the war.

Conscripts must update their address, contact information, and military records within 60 days through government institutions or a mobile application. This is in preparation for a national draft database containing information on every fighting age male in the country. The top United Nations court, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), has on Friday issued an emergency order for Israel to halt its military operations in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

"Israel must immediately halt its military offensive," judges at the ICJ, or world court (which deals with disputes between countries, while the ICC prosecutes individuals) said, saying conditions had been met to issue a new emergency order.

Israel must further halt "any other action in the Rafah Governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part," according to the ruling issued by the body's president Nawaf Salam. He also called the situation 'disastrous' for the Palestinians.

Now weeks into the offensive, at least 800,000 people have fled Rafah, which prior to the assault had some 1.2 million to 1.5 million mostly displaced Gazans packed into its environs.

The request for such an emergency ICJ declaration originated last week when South Africa's lawyers asked the Hague to intervene to ensure the survival of the Palestinian people.

South Africa has also led the charge in bringing the International Criminal Court (ICC) case against Israel's leaders, which has resulted in an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and his defense minister Yoav Gallant.

As for the ICJ's "order" - it is of course largely symbolic and the UN top court has no enforcement capability. But it serves to pile the pressure on Tel Aviv at a moment its international standing and reputation has taken a serious hit. The court invoked the 'Genocide Convention' in issuing its ruling. I’ve encountered several big names in the “anti-establishment” space doing promos of the company’s “Medical Emergency Kits,” so I thought I’d check it out to see what all of the fuss is about.

TWC sells a variety of “emergency kits” ranging from $299 to $399, promising to deliver a “medicine cabinet” full of “life-saving medications” for “ultimate readiness.” Their sponsored content frequently appears on popular right of center media channels, marketing their content in a similar fashion to “doom bunker” ads.

But in pitching its products, the company routinely engages in insane fearmongering. It does no favors to anyone aligned with a mission that seeks a more rational discourse. One such sponsored post that was featured on Breitbart earlier this week read:

An Alberta professor known for her outspoken views on Indigenous politics is returning to the scene of her cancellation – sort of.

Frances Widdowson is scheduled to give an off-campus talk, titled “Indigenization Destroys Academic Freedom,” at the Lethbridge Public Library’s Main Branch on Saturday.

This weekend’s talk is being co-organized by the University of Lethbridge professor emeritus Anthony Hall and the Rational Space Network, a faculty network promoting academic freedom.

The term “indigenization” typically means “the act of making something more Indigenous.”

Widdowson, who contributed to the recently published book Grave Error: How The Media Misled Us, believes indigenization has turned into “a political development that prevents professors from pursuing the truth and developing knowledge about subjects like the residential schools.”

“It seems that the false claim that the ‘remains of 215 children’ were found at the Kamloops Indian Residential School has become dogma that must now be accepted throughout Canadian society,” she said in a news release promoting the event. “University indigenization is one of the major reasons why this disinformation has taken root.”

Widdowson made headlines back in 2021 when she was fired by Mount Royal University after her criticizing Indigenization initiatives and the Black Lives Matter movement. Continue…

A second Conservative nomination candidate is alleging irregularities in a GTA nomination race after the party disqualified her over a rule violation.

Aurora, Ont. councillor Rachel Gilliland had her application to seek the Conservative party’s nomination in Aurora—Oak Ridges—Richmond Hill shot down.

“Rachel Gilliland was in clear violation of rules outlined in the CPC ‘Rules and Procedures for Candidate Nominations,” a Conservative spokesperson told True North in an email.

“The local Candidate Nomination Committee (CNC) recommended disqualification and the National Candidate Selection Committee upheld the local CNC decision. After review, the National Council did not accept Ms. Gilliland’s appeal of this decision.”

As per its standard practice on nominations, the party did not disclose which rules had been broken.

Gilliland, however, alleged a “number of irregularities” and suspected some party nomination rules were broken by another campaign.

Earlier this month, Sabrina Maddeaux suspended her bid in the same nomination race, alleging a corrupt process.

Gilliland told True North that she had similar issues to Maddeaux regarding another nomination candidate knocking on the doors of constituents she signed up for before any updated list of party members was given to the race participants. Continue…

Finance ministers from the G7 economies will release a joint communique on Saturday expressing their support for using the revenue generated by roughly $300 billion in frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine, Bloomberg reported on Friday.

The finance ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US will discuss Ukraine at a meeting on Saturday in the Italian town of Stresa, ahead of a summit of G7 leaders in June.

In the runup to the meeting, the US has been pressing its European allies to use future profits from immobilized Russian funds as a guarantee for a multibillion-dollar loan to Kiev. While Washington initially advocated the outright seizure of this money, the Europeans objected, citing legal issues and potential damage to the West’s financial credibility.

According to a draft communique seen by Bloomberg, the finance chiefs will state that they are “discussing potential schemes to bring forward the extraordinary revenues stemming from immobilized Russian sovereign assets to the benefit of Ukraine.” Continue…

Russia has floated the idea of creating a global space monitoring system to provide early warning about celestial threats, Yury Borisov, the head of Russian space agency Roscosmos, has revealed.

The proposal was made during a two-day summit of the space agency chiefs of the BRICS member states in Moscow, Borisov told RT on the sidelines of the event on Friday.

“The Russian proposal to create a global space monitoring system to determine threats, from both natural and artificial objects, has sparked genuine interest. We’re talking about protection from debris, asteroids,” the space boss explained.

The proposed system would not be limited to BRICS states only, as creating it would require the joint effort of many countries around the world, Borisov suggested.

Boeing’s first crewed spaceflight to take off despite defect

Boeing said on Friday that it will conduct its first astronaut launch in June. The test flight, which will see its Starliner capsule carry two people into space for the first time, was canceled earlier this month due to a rocket defect and a helium leak.

The capsule will take off from Cape Canaveral in Florida aboard a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket on June 1, NASA and Boeing officials said at a press conference. Should that launch date be missed, they added, June 2, 5, and 6 have been selected as alternate dates.

The Starliner will carry NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore to the International Space Station. If successful, the reusable capsule will enter into regular service ferrying NASA personnel to and from the ISS.

Developed specifically for this purpose, Boeing’s Starliner project has suffered years of delays and is roughly $1.5 billion over budget. Its first crewed flight was originally scheduled for 2017, but repeated technical glitches and certification issues saw that date pushed back to May 7 of this year. Continue…
