Aurora forecast is set at 322 Gigawatts. Highest I've personally seen it was 255 GW and auroras were seen in Arizona, Texas, SoCal, and Florida. Canadian grid transformers got fried too.
This one is gonna fry some stuff. Power range only goes to 200 GW, so this is kinda bigly. Forecast is for a half hour out, could get moar bigly and I'm guessing this is going to a weekend to remember for a lot of folks.
I'm directly grounded by a wire clipped to a titanium watch on my end and the building's ground on the other. But yeah, you're right, lots of stray current including protons. Took a glass of water with a teaspoon of baking soda about 30m ago…grounding = unlimited electrons…baking soda = a lot…enough to deal with dropping pH from proton accumulation.
