The remains of seven persons have been taken out from under the rubble of the multi-story building that collapsed following a Ukrainian missile attack on Belgorod city, local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Sunday. The identities of the deceased were being established.

The investigative committee is working at the site alongside rescuers, who suspect that there may be more people under the rubble.

Gladkov mentioned that while he was inspecting the damage, he was disturbed by yet another alarm warning of more rocket danger, which was set off across Belgorod and the surrounding district. “Together with rescuers and volunteers [we] went down to the basement of the ‘Luch’ sports complex to wait it out and start working again,” he wrote in a Telegram post.

He also said 20 people had been hospitalized as a result of the incident.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukraine attacked residential areas of Belgorod, using a Tochka-U tactical missile system, as well as Olkha, and RM-70 Vampire multiple launch rocket systems. The ministry further asserted that Russian air defenses intercepted six Soviet-era Tochka-U missiles, four Vampire rockets, and two Olkha projectiles. It was mentioned that fragments of one of the downed Tochka-U missiles had caused damage to a residential building in Belgorod.

The Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated a criminal terrorism case in response to the strike.

FinCEN also provided slides instructing banks to flag customers making purchases at stores like Cabela’s or Dick’s Sporting Goods as “potential active shooters” or terrorists, according to The New York Post.

While the Capitol incursion happened on one day and was over in a matter of hours, the protests on college campuses have continued for weeks.

DePape was convicted last November of assault and attempted kidnapping after he broke into the Pelosi residence and bludgeoned Paul Pelosi with a hammer while looking for her.

In a court filing on Friday, the DOJ confirmed they were seeking the maximum punishment his crimes:

The nature and circumstances of the offense warrant statutory maximums on each count. The core of both crimes—the attempted kidnapping of a public official and the assault on the family member of a public official—is violence aimed at punishing the former Speaker of the House of Representatives. Both crimes are an assault on our democracy and fundamental values.

The jury rejected the defendant’s contentions that he was motivated by something other than the Speaker Emerita’s official position, but even taking his own statements as true for a moment, the defendant claimed that he went to the Pelosi’s home to inflict violence on the Speaker Emerita. He wanted to teach a lesson. The violent lessons that the defendant wanted to teach are not permitted in this country, and the sentence that this Court imposes must reflect the nature and circumstances of the offense.

The filing added that there was “nothing about the history and characteristics of the defendant that warrant leniency.”

80 bodies recovered from Shifa hospital mass graves, some victims executed at point blank range

The bodies of 80 Palestinians have been uncovered in three mass graves at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, where “hard evidence” shows some of the victims were “executed” at point-blank range during the Israeli military’s horrific massacre of people and medical staff at the complex in March.

The Health Ministry in Gaza said Saturday that three mass graves were discovered inside a section of the al-Shifa Hospital complex.

It said there is “hard evidence” that some of the victims were “executed” at point-blank range, with bullet wounds found in their heads and chests.

The ministry said among those killed in the hospital were four medical staff.

The latest discovery brought the total number of medical staff killed during the regime’s war on the territory to 492.

Hungary accuses NATO countries of taking huge steps towards war

Hungary disagrees with the position of NATO countries regarding assistance to Ukraine. Budapest believes that the Alliance is “taking huge steps towards war”, according to the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjártó.

He mentioned that Hungary wouldn’t participate either in NATO’s fund for Ukraine of 100 billion euros or in the Alliance’s plans to coordinate military aid to Ukraine and training for Ukrainian soldiers.

“NATO has crossed its own red lines and is taking huge steps towards war, while direct confrontation carries the risk of starting the Third World War,” Szijjártó stated.

He added that NATO countries consider the war in Ukraine to be their war. This idea is the opposite of Budapest’s position.

“Those who believe that this is our war support the continuation of the war until Ukraine’s victory,” the Minister said.

In his opinion, “the only realistic way” to end the war is diplomacy.

For two years of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Hungary has been refusing to provide military assistance to Ukrainian defenders. Meanwhile, Budapest continues its diplomatic and economic relations with Moscow.

GAZA DEATH TOLL SURPASSES 35,000 AS ISRAEL EXPANDS MILITARY OPERATIONS (VIDEOS)

The Palestinian death toll from the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip has surged since last October to 35,034 people, the health ministry in the besieged enclave said on May 12.

At least 78,755 other people have been injured in the war, the ministry, which is run by the Hamas Movement, added in a statement.

“Israeli attacks killed 63 people and injured 114 others in the last 24 hours,” the statement said. “Many people are still trapped under rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them.”

The announcement came as the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a ground operation in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza.

Hamas’ military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, said in separate posts on its Telegram channel that there had been “fierce fighting” to the east of Jabaliya, near Gaza City. Two videos released by the group showed an attack with an armed quadcopter on an Israeli main battle tank in Jabaliya and a mortar attack on IDF gatherings in the nearby al-Zaytoun neighborhood.

Israeli troops advanced in Jabalia after heavy Israeli bombardment. The IDF said it hit 30 Hamas targets overnight, killing several fighters.

It’s worth noting that the IDF called on the civilian population to evacuate the camp in a post on Telegram and other social networks a day earlier. It claimed that Hamas attempted to “reassemble its terrorist infrastructure and operatives in the area.”

Meanwhile in southern Gaza, the IDF said on May 12 that dozens of fighters had been killed in the area of Rafah where more than 1,4 million Palestinians, many displaced from elsewhere, had been seeking shelter.

Despite expanding operations in Gaza, Israel is still facing fire from the Strip. On May 12, two rocket attacks targeted the city of Ashkelon and two others hit Sderot settlement and the area of Kerem Shalom. The first attack on Ashkelon wounded three people.

Israel has so far lost 271 troops in ground operations in Gaza and failed to achieve any of its objectives. Hamas continues to rule the Strip, around 100 Israelis captured during the October 7 surprise attacks are still in the hands of the group and rockets are being launched from the enclave on a regular basis.

Actual Human Deaths from War

To narrow our focus, the world has not seen a major war since World War II took place in 1939-1945, with over 16 million military fatalities and an estimated 70-85 million overall casualties, including civilians. Given a world population of 2.3 billion in 1940, war casualties were thus about 3.7 percent of that total.

Granted the horrific nature of wartime deaths, 3.7 percent remains a relatively low figure, with the concentration of deaths obviously affecting some nations much more than others. In World War II the hardest hit were the Soviet Union and Germany. But the total loss was scarcely a bump in the road of long-term growth of the world’s human population, today reaching 8.1 billion and counting.

Looking at more contemporary data, deaths attributed to all wars since 9/11, a period often referred to as one of “endless war,” are about 4.5-4.7 million. This figure, however, yields vastly smaller proportions than those of World War II. Thus the net demographic effect of war over the past two-plus decades is scarcely noticeable, though again, any casualties are horrific to those affected.

Additionally, war casualties, including civilians, are nowadays produced by highly focused conflicts within limited areas. These conflicts often involve countries where the West covets their resources. Thus West Asia, with its vast hydrocarbon and mineral reserves, has posed a tempting target, leading to U.S./U.K. assaults against Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya. Similar, though less visible assaults, have taken place in Africa.

More recently, the U.S. proxy war against Russia in Ukraine has led to depopulation of that country through emigration and battlefield losses, even as U.S. corporations like BlackRock have made investments in land and minerals. The U.S.-supported genocide by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza has also been suspected of having as a motivation a takeover of offshore oil and gas reserves.
