A Texas school principal's husband has been accused of producing child abuse materials on school grounds and distributing it on the dark web.

James Stone, who teaches at Tompkins High School in Katy, was taken into custody on Monday on 10 counts of possessing and producing what police say are thousands of images involving minors.

Police say the 53-year-old admitted to producing the images, some of which were taken on school grounds.

He is also well of taking images at various local swimming pools and other places in Katy.

Police claimed that the images were distributed on 'the dark web.'

His wife Melinda Stone, the principal of Taylor High School, wrote two emails to the school community following his arrest and said she was cutting ties with her husband. In two emails - one to parents and staff and another just to staff - she confirmed her knowledge of the charges and announced she was disavowing her husband, whom she said did something 'disgraceful'.

In her letter to staff, the principal wrote: 'I am sure that many of you are aware of the incident involving my husband, James Stone. James was arrested this morning for possession of pornographic materials.

'His arrest and involvement in this criminal activity was unbeknownst to me or those closest to him.

'My family and I are deeply disappointed in his actions and thus we do not have any plans to be involved in James’ criminal proceedings as he navigates the next steps.

'It also important for me to confirm with you that I, nor any other family member, is implicated in James’ criminal activity.

'Because the incident is still being investigated, law enforcement agencies are unable to provide additional information at this time, but know that the District and I take this incident very seriously and are fully cooperating with law enforcement.

Biden administration to increase tariffs on Chinese electric cars to 100 percent

The Biden administration will announce new tariffs on electric vehicle and solar cell imports from China, two major components of the administration’s efforts to reduce U.S. emissions, officials confirmed to reporters.

Officials on the call said tariffs will increase from 25 percent to 100 percent on Chinese EV imports to offset Chinese export practices, which they argued “favor Chinese automakers at the expense of US and other foreign automakers and autoworkers and are leading to a massive surge of unfairly underpriced Chinese vehicles into foreign markets.” The administration will also double tariffs on Chinese solar cell imports to 50 percent, officials said on the call. This increase, they said, is meant to counteract Chinese dominance of global solar production, which currently comprises about 70 percent.

The EV tariffs are largely symbolic, as the existing tariffs have largely kept Chinese imports out. US regulator opens Waymo investigation

Reported incidents included collisions with stationary and semi-stationary objects — including gates and chains — and parked vehicles. Other incidents included a collision “shortly after” the autonomous driving system “exhibited unexpected behavior near traffic safety control devices.

Other incidents, including vehicles driving in opposing lanes with oncoming traffic or entering construction zones, were identified by publicly available reports, according to the regulator.

The investigation will evaluate the automated driving systems’ performance in detecting and responding to traffic control devices and in avoiding collisions.

A Waymo spokesperson defended the company’s safety and performance in a statement about the investigation.
