Judge DaSean Jones and Bernie Sanders' Our Revolution
In the PB Notable above, we learned that the 180th District Court seat in Harris County, Texas is facing a new election. DeSean Jones is the judge in that district. Jones is a U.S. Army Veteran and a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. On the judge's endorsement page, we learn that something called "Our Revolution, Harris County" endorsed him for election. To learn more about Our Revolution, see 2/3 and 3/3 this thread. The new election is not the only controversy the judge has faced.
In an Aug. 21, 2023 ~~Texas Scorecard~~ article, the Harris County Deputies' Organization called for Judge Jones to step down or be removed from office. Why, you may ask, are the deputies so upset with Judge Jones? Terran Green, a repeat violent offender and a felon was released, by Jones, on a low bond. Green later proceeded, during a traffic stop, to shoot a Harris County Deputy, fled and wounded 2 U.S. Marshals and another deputy. After an extended barricaded standoff in a home, the felon surrendered. The National Police Association is also calling for Judge Jones to step down or be removed from the bench. The National Police Association announcement provides a list of instances of the judge turning criminals lose on the community.
