It reminds me of the difference between hard contact with the enemy versus the workups for deployment, playing opfor. Playing opfor has a scripted component, but is also incredibly adaptive. They are you and know you better than the enemy a world away ever will. They are relentless yet not going to kill you.
The enemy, on the other hand, is extremely brutal and savage in a straight-forward manner. They will exploit the openings they think they see and will leverage to kill with unmatched passion.
