Major outage strikes ANZ online banking and app, services beginning to 'come back online
ANZ says its app and online banking service are returning online after a major outage prevented some customers from using them.
The outage was first reported around midday on Tuesday.
The bank says it is investigating a technology issue relating to a third party vendor.

Several weeks later, it returned, but only partly. Now, four years later, I've only regained around 10% of what I had before catching COVID. Usually, what happens is that I'll smell something for a few seconds, and then it goes away. The same goes for my sense of taste. I'll taste something when I first put it in my mouth, and then it's gone. Some scents that I used to love smell nasty to me now. Western Sydney University notifies 7,500 people affected by cyber breach on its network
A top Australian university has revealed it has detected a cyber breach on its IT network affecting thousands of people.
A major Sydney university has fallen victim to a cyber breach in its IT network, potentially exposing the personal information of thousands of people.
Approximately 7,500 students at Western Sydney University were contacted on Tuesday after the university detected “unauthorised access” on its IT network.
The university said in a statement the “intrusion” was first identified in January, with steps being taken to minimise disruption.
“Since January 2024, the University undertook its due diligence to understand the nature, scope and scale of the incident, the number of individuals impacted, and to protect against further harm. This was also done in accordance with the University’s legal obligations,” it said.
“Monitoring and scanning indicates that the preventative measures taken as a part of the incident response have successfully prevented any further unauthorised access.”
The university’s Microsoft Office 365 system was breached as early as May last year, which included access to some email accounts and SharePoint files.
“Investigations also indicate that the University’s Solar Car Laboratory infrastructure may have been used as part of the incident,” the statement continued.
It is not clear what kind of personal details have been exposed.

Much of eastern Australia faces a heightened risk of blackouts this summer in part due to delays to a major clean energy project, the national energy market operator has warned.
NSW and Victoria face a heightened risk of blackouts this summer, the Australian Energy Market Operator has warned as it sounded the alarm over delays to transmission projects and the upcoming retirement of coal-powered generators.
In an update to the 10-year outlook it released last year, the AEMO said the worsening outlook was in part due to a year-long delay to the delivery of a Project EnergyConnect power cable between NSW and South Australia.
It follows the operator warning last year that it is continuing to forecast "reliability gaps" in the network, largely due to the move to close 62 per cent of Australia's coal fleet by 2033.
To minimise the risk of outages, AEMO will tender for emergency reserves to mitigate the impact these possible outages will have on Aussies.
Energy expert and the Grattan Institute's Director of Energy Program Tony Wood said the operator’s warning should be seen as a motivator rather than a warning.
“This is a statement of opportunity, not a statement of catastrophe,” Mr Wood told Sky News’ First Edition.
When asked why there had been such significant delays with the green energy projects, the energy expert told Sky News the capabilities needed to undergo Australia’s power transition has been “underestimated”.

Ultimately, Israel can do more than simply manage the Arab-Israeli conflict though war. No amount of weapons or victories will grant Israel the peace its seeks. When Israel is on a sound economic footing, and is free, powerful, and healthy internally, it will no longer simply manage the Arab-Israeli conflict; it will transcend it. As a senior Iraqi opposition leader said recently: “Israel must rejuvenate and revitalize its moral and intellectual leadership. It is an important — if not the most important–element in the history of the Middle East.” Israel — proud, wealthy, solid, and strong — would be the basis of a truly new and peaceful Middle East.

NEW YORK – The Syrian ambassador to the UN has long complained of a Zionist conspiracy working with the Syrian rebels to overthrow President Bashar Assad.
Now, a report from the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) reveals that Israel has been working closely with Syrian rebels in the Golan Heights and have kept close contact over the past 18 months. The report was submitted to the UN Security Council at the beginning of the month.
The documents show that Israel has been doing more than simply treating wounded Syrian civilians in hospitals. This and a few past reports have described transfer of unspecified supplies from Israel to the Syrian rebels, and sightings of IDF soldiers meeting with the Syrian opposition east of the green zone, as well as incidents when Israeli soldiers opened up the fence to allow Syrians through who did not appear to be injured.
