Anthony Weiner wore a suit and tie for his mother’s first press conference of his mayoral campaign on Thursday afternoon.
“I am here in support of my son,” said Frances Weiner, who wasn’t as formally dressed, in a short-sleeved blue shirt and floppy red hat.
Frances, who taught public school for 31 years, stood with her son outside Brooklyn Tech, Weiner’s alma mater, to support his call for increased teacher-training to address the new common core curriculum.
“Yes, it’s important to give teachers salaries they can live on,” said Frances, speaking without notes to a crowd of about 20 reporters and photographers. “But what’s much more important is to honor teachers, and to support teachers, and that’s what Anthony is intending to do in proposing such extensive preparation for them in this really difficult job of instituting this really important curriculum.” ..
