You are correct. What we are seeing on the several flight radar sites is a combination of different data systems. Some planes indicate they do not want to be tracked and some of the sites honor that, or suppress the callsign. Military planes often do not appear, or appear then disappear. Planes over water away from the coasts are not captured on the radars. There are many reasons why the radar websites are not perfect, technical and not necessarily spoopy reasons.

Also data on the apps may be delayed with respect to real plane movement.

  1. Seeing the USAF's UAV surveilling Europe at high altitude, as usual (no pic).

  2. Qatar AF flew out of Nice, France and is currently heading into Lithuania. You got me!

  3. A Saudi AF small jet with a Medevac designation is over Greece flying NW.
