ICELAND VOLCANO UPDATE

The volcano eruption is somewhat slowing down but still going. This is the eight eruption over there in three years, and it is attacking the town of Grindavík again. Defence walls are holding, see pic, but it has managed to cut off the last remaining road into town. Grindavík is now completely cut off.

However, the people of Grindavík didn´t care much because they were in Reykjavík, where the Grindavík basketball team was playing the last game in the finals for championship agains Valur. They lost the game 80-73.

Meanwhile in Grindavík growing worries have risen over some sheeps and lambs trapped inside the town. Rescue operations are being formed.

The greatest worry are "lava pools" that collect lots of lava and the a damn could break with a great flood of lava, destroying Grindavík, killing all sheep and lambs.

The locals are planning to make a new road into Grindavík, over hot lava. There are speculations how soon that could happen. Technically, the lava wouldn´t have to cool down that much. They´re talking days, not weeks.

With changing wind direction, the gas from the eruption will head towards Reykjavík this evening. The public is recommended to close windows and not let babies sleep outside.
