Berlin allows Ukraine to fire German weapons at targets in Russia

Chancellor Olaf Scholz has followed the United States and others in authorizing Ukraine to hit targets in Russia with weapons delivered by Germany.

Germany has given Ukraine permission to fire German-delivered weapons at targets in Russia, Chancellor Olaf Scholz's spokesman said Friday, May 31, matching a move by the United States. Kyiv had the "right under international law to defend itself" against attacks coming from inside Russia, close to the border with Ukraine, Steffen Hebestreit said in a statement.
