Marian Robinson, Michelle Obama's mother, dies at 86
Robinson became a fixture of the White House when she moved from her hometown of Chicago to help take care of her granddaughters during the Obama administration.
May 31, 2024, 5:55 PM EDT Kelly O'Donnell and Carol E. Lee
WASHINGTON — Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson, has died, according to a family statement shared with NBC News. Robinson was 86 years old.
“She passed peacefully this morning, and right now, none of us are quite sure how exactly we’ll move on without her,” the family statement said. The family statement is from Michelle and Barack Obama; Craig Robinson and his wife, Kelly; and Marian Robinson’s grandchildren, Avery, Leslie, Malia, Sasha, Austin and Aaron.
Robinson became known to Americans as the country’s first grandmother after her son-in-law, Barack Obama, won the 2008 presidential election. She was a fixture in the White House during his eight years in office, though she kept a low profile. She attended holiday events, the occasional overseas trip and concerts in the East Room. But most often she was with her granddaughters, Sasha and Malia.
Having lived in Chicago her entire life, Robinson agreed to move to Washington, D.C., in 2009 to live in the White House residence and help take care of her granddaughters, who were seven and 10 years old at the time. “I felt like this was going to be a very hard life for both of them,” she later said in a CBS interview, referring to her daughter and son-in-law. “And I was worried about their safety, and I was worried about my grandkids. That’s what got me to move to D.C.” (This is made up she was tat the WH all the time and went on 100s of foreign trips, she thought she was queen, and acted like it.)
In their statement Friday, Robinson's family members said she agreed to leave Chicago with "a healthy nudge." "We needed her. The girls needed her. And she ended up being our rock through it all," they said.
"She relished her role as a grandmother. … And although she enforced whatever household rules we’d set for bedtime, watching TV, or eating candy, she made clear that she sided with her 'grandbabies' in thinking that their parents were too darn strict," they added.
Robinson was born in Chicago in 1937 and grew up in the city’s South Side, where she raised her daughter and son, Craig Robinson. She was married to Fraser Robinson, who died in 1991 from multiple sclerosis. The former president once called his mother-in-law “the least pretentious person I know.” Indeed, Robinson said in the CBS interview that it was a “huge adjustment” being waited on by White House residence staff, whom she said she convinced to let her do her own laundry.
"Rather than hobnobbing with Oscar winners or Nobel laureates, she preferred spending her time upstairs with a TV tray, in the room outside her bedroom with big windows that looked out at the Washington Monument," the family said in its statement Friday. "The only guest she made a point of asking to meet was the Pope."
The former president credited Robinson with keeping his daughters grounded while they grew up in the White House. “She’s down to Earth and she doesn’t understand all the fuss,” he said in an interview on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert."
Michelle Obama was deeply close to her mother. It was Robinson who narrated the biographical video introducing her daughter at the Democratic National Convention in 2008. And after leaving the White House, Robinson said, “My saying is when I grow up, I would like to be like Michelle Obama.”
Just a few weeks ago, Michelle Obama paid tribute to her mother on Mother’s Day by announcing that an exhibit at the Obama Presidential Center Museum in Chicago will be named after her.“In so many ways she fostered in me a deep sense of confidence in who I was and who I could be by teaching me how to think for myself, how to use my own voice, and how to understand my own worth,” the former first lady said in a video announcement. “I simply wouldn’t be who I am today without my mom.”
The family statement released Friday said "there was and will be only one Marian Robinson," adding, "In our sadness, we are lifted up by the extraordinary gift of her life. And we will spend the rest of ours trying to live up to her example."

Chief Justice Rejects Call for Alito’s Recusal in Jan. 6 Cases After Flag Incidents
(Roberts tells Senate to stay in your own lane)
In a letter to Democratic senators, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said that individual justices decide when to recuse. He declined to meet with the senators to discuss court ethics.
By Abbie VanSickle May 30, 2024
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. on Thursday declined requests to have Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. recuse himself from cases related to the Jan. 6 Capitol attack after provocative flags flew on the justice’s properties.
The justices make those calls on their own, Chief Justice Roberts wrote in a letter to Democratic senators.
“Members of the Supreme Court recently reaffirmed the practice we have followed for 235 years pursuant to which individual justices decide recusal issues,” he wrote.
CALLS FOR RECUSAL
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. wrote in a letter to Democratic senators that justices decide for themselves whether to step aside from cases.
The chief justice also rejected a request to meet with Democratic senators to discuss ethics at the Supreme Court, writing that doing so would raise concerns about separation of powers and judicial independence.
Sitting down with leaders of one political party “who have expressed an interest in matters currently pending before the court,” he wrote, would only underscore that “such a meeting would be inadvisable.”
Democratic lawmakers have sounded alarms over ethics and impartiality after revelations in recent weeks that flags displayed outside two of Justice Alito’s residences appeared to back the “Stop the Steal” movement.
One, an upside-down American flag, flew over the justice’s front lawn at his Virginia home in January 2021 as the court was considering whether to hear a 2020 election case. The second, an “Appeal to Heaven” flag, a symbol carried on Jan. 6 and associated with a push for a more Christian-minded government, flew at the justice’s New Jersey beach house last summer.
In letter to the chief justice last week, two Democratic senators, Richard J. Durbin of Illinois and Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, urged Chief Justice Roberts to intervene and to have Justice Alito step aside from two cases related to Jan. 6. One is over whether former President Donald J. Trump is immune from prosecution on charges of trying to overturn the election. The other involves a federal statute used to prosecute hundreds of rioters who ransacked the Capitol.
“By displaying the upside-down and ‘Appeal to Heaven’ flags outside his homes,” the senators wrote, “Justice Alito actively engaged in political activity, failed to avoid the appearance of impropriety and failed to act in a manner that promotes public confidence in the impartiality of the judiciary.”
The court has been under increased scrutiny over ethics questions since revelations last year that Justice Clarence Thomas had failed to disclose decades of luxury gifts and travel from wealthy conservatives. The justices later adopted an ethics code, the first in the court’s history, though it contains no clear enforcement mechanism and does not lay out a structure for any potential consequences or penalties for breaches of the code.
Justice Alito informed Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday that he would not recuse himself from cases arising from the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. In letters, Justice Alito said that the flags were flown by his wife, Martha-Ann.
The chief justice did not directly address the flag incidents in his letter, though he noted that Justice Alito had already responded to lawmakers about the issue of potential recusal.

Outrage as author John Grisham says current Supreme Court has 'inspired' him to write sequel to book about justices being assassinated
By SOPHIE MANN FOR DAILYMAIL.COM , 30 May 2024
Famed thriller writer John Grisham stirred up controversy Wednesday during an appearance on The View when he said he was thinking about writing a second book about assassinations of Supreme Court Justices.
'I wrote a great book called "The Pelican Brief" in which two Supreme Court Justices were assassinated, and I’ve thought about doing it again,' he said, prompting immediate laughter from the audience. (But then he goes on to say how bad the court it now)
Longtime host Joy Behar was quick to jump in and attempt to explain Grisham's sinister words. 'No, no, no, no!' she exclaimed, before Whoopi Goldberg said, 'Writing part two! He's talking about writing part two!'
'It's all fiction, don't get upset,' said Grisham, before going on to slam the current Supreme Court. (Would it be funny of he wrote a book about the killing of the current President or Head of DOJ, would that be funny? He knows there are MKultra out there waiting for the orders, so this was more than inappropriate, especially since a kid that was caught trying to assassinate Kavanaugh, this was not a joke, and he of all people know it)
The ladies of The View jumped in to defend author John Grisham after he joked about being inspired by the current Supreme Court to write a second book in which justices are assassinated
Behar asked Grisham his opinion of the current court and whether he might consider writing a book or film script about some of its recent, controversial rulings. Grisham, 69, was quick to weigh in with a heavy dose of criticism.'The court has never looked this bad,'he said.
'In my lifetime, some of the rulings, the ethical challenges, it went downhill in 2000 when five Republicans on the court chose to elect a president, it was political, Bush versus Gore, that’s when it all started really going downhill.'
He told the women he thinks the court gets worse every term, but because the justices are appointed for life, he has 'no solution, because you can't get rid of them.' 'The solution is, make them all retire at the age of 75. Every federal judge should have to retire at the age of 75,' he then declared. Grisham, after writing 50 books, has acquired a large and solid fan base. But some were irked by the author's move to promote his political views on the famously liberal show.
On X, several Grisham fans lambasted him after the appearance.
Ahead of Grisham's interview on Wednesday, First Lady Jill Biden also made an appearance where she imagined a dystopian American future if Donald Trump regains the presidency this fall. 'We cannot take things for granted, and think of the Supreme Court for God's sake. 'Talk about things getting worse? Can you imagine if we put any more Republicans on the Supreme Court? No! We will lose all of our rights!' she said.
(Grisham knows about Predictive Programming, along with all the other media attacking the court, this is a full on War against them. There is no joke about what he said.)

Today’s conviction was a weaponization of the judicial systembut there is more to come.
Alvin Bragg is funded by the state of New York, but Jack Smith is funded by the U.S. Congress led in the House by Mike Johnson, who refuses to defund the next sham conviction of Trump.

It was the plan all along: Trump found GUILTY and we’ve compiled the internet’s most interesting takes…
May 31, 2024 (a day ago)1/2
This was the plan all along, and anyone who thought President Trump would simply skate out of this sham trial without a guilty verdict was either daydreaming or doesn’t grasp the weaponized judicial system we’re up against in the United States, especially in liberal-run cesspools like New York City and the DC Swamp. So, when the guilty verdict came down, nobody was surprised. Yet, decent, law-abiding Americans were horrified, as our country has morphed into a North Korea-style dictatorship under the Biden regime. After all, we’ve toppled dictators who were less destructive than Joe Biden, haven’t we?
President Trump responded to this injustice with stoic determination, power, and leadership, reminding everyone that the REAL verdict is coming in November.
Charlie Kirk:
BREAKING: Donald Trump reacts to the Manhattan jury’s guilty verdict: “The real verdict will be November 5th by the people.” “The whole country is being rigged right now. This is being done by the Biden Administration in order to hurt or wound a political opponent.” “We’ll fight to the end and we’ll win…this is long from over.”
However, as this un-American nightmare unfolds, people are responding with some fascinating insights that shed light on what might happen next and where this country is headed. However, sadly, the first point to be made is that the uniparty is alive and well. You can tell by the weak responses who is secretly cheering behind the scenes that President Trump was convicted, starting with Mitch McConnell.
In addition, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie used this moment to remind America that Speaker Mike Johnson refused to defund Jack Smith. Just like with Mitch McConnell, their true intentions are revealed through their statements and actions.
Senator Tim Scott came out with a strong show of support for President Trump, but the GOP needs to understand that words alone are no longer enough. We need to see action and some serious consequences for the Democrats. Heads need to start rolling all over DC.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the aisle, RFK Jr. has weighed in. He’s clearly positioning himself politically with his latest statement, aiming to attract MAGA supporters if Trump’s fortunes go sideways. Regardless of his motives, his statement helps our cause in the battle against the Biden dictatorship.
Collin Rugg:
JUST IN: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. blasts the Democratic party while coming to Trump’s defense, says they are helping him win the 2024 election. RFK went on to argue that Democrats are getting “rid of as many possibilities for voters.” “When I was growing up, the Democratic Party was the party of getting everybody to vote, of making sure nobody got disenfranchised.” “The modern Democratic party is just trying to get rid of as many possibilities for voters as possible.”
Tucker Carlson said it best:
Import the Third World, become the Third World. That’s what we just saw. This won’t stop Trump. He’ll win the election if he’s not killed first. But it does mark the end of the fairest justice system in the world. Anyone who defends this verdict is a danger to you and your family.

The silver lining in this darkness is that the American people can clearly see what’s unfolding—how an unpopular dictatorship is weaponizing our most cherished institutions to cling to any shred of power available.
Megan Kelly says there’s a “reckoning” coming.
The Vigilant Fox:
🚨 NEW: ==Megyn Kelly suggests a reckoning is coming for Biden, Obama, and Clinton after Trump verdict.
“You just wait, and it won’t be Hunter Biden the next time==. It’s going to be Joe Biden. It could potentially still be Barack Obama. It could still potentially be Hillary Clinton. We’re going to have to look at what the statutes of limitations are on the various crimes they surely committed. We’re going to have to look at passing laws to revive those dead crimes, felonies, or misdemeanors so that those cases can be brought out of time.”
Kelly says,“The only way to save the Republic now is to give them a taste of their own medicine.”
She compares the Democrats to a wolf that just “tasted blood” and suggests the only way to stop a wolf from “coming back for more” is “if he loses a limb of his own.”
“Who’s getting indicted next?”she asked. “Joe Biden? Maybe Jill Biden? How low can we go?You may not want to see it. That ship has already left port. That horse has left the barn. That’s where we’re going. So before you celebrate too much over at MSNBC and CNN, who are positively gleeful, gleeful over this absurd conviction, you wait and ask yourself, ask yourself what kind of Pandora’s box has been opened here?”
Clearly, the American people don’t like being told who they can vote for.
Phillip Anderson:
I just maxed out my credit card tonight donating to Trump’s campaign!Because I want every fking headline to read tomorrow that the Trump campaign raised $100,000,000 just hours after the bull shit verdict! Trump 2024 all the way !!!!!! FK dictator Joe Biden and his communist election meddlers!
This is the cover of today’s New York Post:
The moment President Trump was found “guilty” in this sham trial, Google searches for how to donate to Trump spiked. Just take a moment to compare the Google search trends for donations to Trump versus Biden. Stunning, right? It looks like the left just woke up 100 million people, and they know it.
The left appears to be bracing for impact rather than celebrating any victories. And it definitely seems like the left is finally reading the room correctly. This dictatorship is literally creating Trump supporters like a factory pumps out gadgets.
Voters who disliked President Trump are now vowing to support him.
Clearly, this shameful verdict isn’t about something President Trump did wrong—it’s a reflection of how far our country has veered off track. This isn’t Trump’s “shame.” It’s America’s shame. The only way to begin correcting this course is to vote for Trump in November and send a resounding message to the tyrants in the uniparty regime: We won’t accept their new version of America, and we, the people, are still in charge.
