General Dynamics' new 155-millimeter artillery shell factory in Mesquite, Texas, is set to produce 30,000 shells per month, according to a New York Times report. This will provide crucial support to the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the first and second lines and bring the US Army closer to its 100,000 shell target goal by 2025. However, this goal remains far behind Russia's current 155mm shell production capacity of 250,000 rounds per month.

Thailand announces intention to join BRICS, accelerating dollar’s demise
Thailand has announced its intention to become a member of the BRICS economic bloc in a move that could accelerate the demise of the U.S. dollar.
This is according to Thai government spokesman Chai Wacharonke, who said in a statement that the country’s cabinet in Bangkok has now given the go-ahead to an official letter of intent.
Chai reported that Thailand underscored in its letter the importance of multipolarity and the rising role that developing nations like Thailand are playing on the international stage. The country believes its vision for the future aligns with BRICS principles.
Thailand also identified a number of ways they believe joining BRICS would be beneficial, including the chance to participate in shaping a new world order and taking on a greater role in the international arena. If it is approved, Thailand would be the first Southeast Asian member of BRICS.

The killing of two Palestinian first responders comes as Israel escalates attacks in Rafah
Israeli forces bombed an ambulance in Rafah, killing two Palestinian paramedics on a rescue mission, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).
The pair, identified as Haitham Tubasi and Suhail Hassouna, were “deliberately” targeted while in a PRCS ambulance in the Tel al-Sultan area in western Rafah, the medical group said.
The charity added that they were killed while “they were performing their humanitarian duty”.
Their bodies were retrieved on Thursday by their colleagues, who were moved to tears as they buried them in Rafah.
“The Israeli occupation forces deliberately bombed the ambulance vehicle despite it bearing the internationally protected Red Crescent emblem,” PRCS said on social media platform X.

Political assassinations hit grim record ahead of Mexico election
The issue of violent crime emerges as one of the top issues in this year's presidential contest.
Mexico's election is now the bloodiest in its modern history after a candidate running for local office in central Puebla state was murdered on Friday at a political rally, taking the number of assassinated candidates to 37 ahead of Sunday's vote.
Jorge Huerta Cabrera, a candidate who was running for a council seat in the town of Izucar de Matamoros, was gunned down in the attack, according to the state prosecutor's office.
The killing takes the number of assassinated candidates in the 2024 election season to 37, one more than during the 2021 midterm election when 36 candidates were killed, according to data from security consultancy Integralia.
The issue of violent crime has emerged as one of the top issues in this year's presidential contest, in which the ruling party of outgoing President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has been forced to defend a persistently high murder rate, as the opposition has sought to use the bloodshed to argue for change.
Ruling party hopeful Claudia Sheinbaum is widely expected to win Sunday's vote and become Mexico's first female president.
"It's possible that violence is being used as a means to define the election in advance, particularly when certain interests are perceived to be at risk in the event that a particular political project triumphs," said Armando Vargas, an Integralia researcher.
The consultancy has also counted 828 non-lethal attacks on candidates during the current election season, up from 749 since just Monday.
Analysts point to Mexico's mix of powerful drug cartels and often corrupt local governments as contributing to the dangers faced by candidates.
Earlier this week, a local mayoral candidate in southern Guerrero state was gunned down at point-blank range during a campaign rally.
He was among 560 candidates and election officials who have been given security guards by the government due to persistent threats.
Friday's grisly assassination was captured on video, with mayhem erupting at the rally after the shots rang out.

SYRIAN, RUSSIAN STRIKES HIT ISIS CELLS IN CENTRAL SYRIA
Warplanes of the Syrian Arab Air Force and the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out on June 1 a series of airstrikes against ISIS cells in Syria’s central region.
According to Syrian media, the strikes targeted hideouts of the terrorist group between the al-Amur mountains and the town of al-Sukhnah in the eastern countryside of Homs. The strikes killed a number of militants and destroyed several vehicle-mounted machine guns, motorcycles and other military equipment.
Attacks on government forces in the central region increased recently. At least 21 fighters of the Quds Brigade, a pro-government armed faction of mostly Palestinian fighters in Syria, were killed in an ambush on April 18 near the town of al-Sukhna in the eastern Homs countryside. The attack was blamed on ISIS. And on May 3 at least 13 fighters of the National Defense Forces were killed in an attack by suspected militants of ISIS in the area of al-Kum, to the north of al-Sukhnah.
Intensive Syrian and Russian airstrikes targeted ISIS cells and even U.S.-linked militants in the central region the past months.
In addition, Syrian Arab Army deployed in recent weeks large reinforcements, including units from the elite 25th Special Mission Forces Division -commonly known as the Tiger Forces-, in the central region, mainly between the eastern countryside of Homs and the western Deir Ezzor countryside.
Despite recent efforts to counter ISIS in the central region, it is still unclear if Syrian government forces and their allies are planning to launch a full-on military operation against the terrorist group’s cells and other militants there.
