Music industry has been controlled, since before the 50's -
Rockefellers and the Radio:
Massive power to create stars, trends, money, buying habits - all that.
Radio is what Adolf used for his power over the masses within his reach.
Movies same. The owners of the studios had to own the stars, "lock stock and barrel" starting seriously back in the 1920's
We have zero notion what it would be like without all this nefarious control.

The big-time owners, Hiltons believe it or not, and others (maybe a secret society?) create the trends, create the stars… but they stalled out. Karma.
The phantom of the Paradise is the guy they stole the music from; they killed him later anyway.
