A shocking video has exploded across social media showing a man stabbing anti-Islam activist and politician, 59-year-old Michael Stürzenberger, during a campaign event in Mannheim.

The campaign workers scramble to stop the man, who also stabbed a police officer in the neck.

News reports indicate that the suspect has already been shot and killed by police, although the suspect’s death has not been confirmed by all news outlets. In one frame of the video, the man can clearly be seen plunging his knife into the neck of a police officer.

Police say the victim was campaigning and providing “educational information” in the lead-up to the attack in the city square.

Stürzenberger is an anti-Islamic political activist who is a member of the Citizens’ Movement Pax Europa, who earlier served in the Munich Christian Socialist Union (CSU) and as the chairman of the Freedom party, a small party which is now dissolved. He publishes an anti-Islamic blog.

He is well known for producing a citizens’ petition against the construction of a mosque in Munich. He was convicted for “insulting an officer” and “denigration of religious teachings.”

He has also been under surveillance in the past, with the Bavarian State Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) listing Stürzenberger in its report related to “Islamophobia relevant to the Protection of the Constitution.”

State Supreme Courts Take Up COVID-19 Vaccine Cases

Two state supreme courts are considering whether workers who administered COVID-19 vaccines to minors without parental consent should be shielded by a federal law.

The North Carolina Supreme Court agreed to take up an appeal from Tanner Smith, one of the minors, and his mother, according to an order dated May 23.

Tanner, who was 14 at the time, went to a clinic at a school in his district, Guilford County Schools, in 2021 to receive a COVID-19 test. Instead, his mom and stepfather learned later, he was injected with a COVID-19 vaccine even after he told workers at the clinic he didn’t want it.

Emily Happel, Tanner’s mother, and the boy sued the district and the organization that was running the clinic, alleging battery and violations of constitutional rights.

A trial court ruled against them, though, finding that the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act (PREP Act) provides immunity to the workers.

The act, signed in 2005 by then-President George W. Bush, conveys immunity to administrators of covered vaccines except in cases of “willful misconduct.”

The North Carolina Court of Appeals upheld the ruling in March, despite designating the conduct carried out by the administrators “egregious.”

“We must determine whether the scope of immunity covers the potential liability at issue in this case. We hold that it does because, as the trial court noted, the immunity provided by the act is extremely broad,” Judge April Wood wrote in the unanimous ruling.

“Plaintiffs argue that the PREP Act does not cover their claims because they do not arise because of COVID-19, but merely happen to relate to COVID-19. We would be inclined to agree if the PREP Act did not define the scope of immunity so broadly,” she added later.

Google Chrome Deadline—72 Hours To Update Or Delete Your Browser

For Google Chrome and its two-billion-plus desktop users, May will go down as a month to forget: four zero-days and emergency update warnings inside ten days, launched a tidal wave of wall-to-wall headlines that were hard to miss.

The US government has warned federal employees to install May’s emergency updates or to cease using Chrome. And they have issued a June 3 deadline for the first of those updates to be applied. It’s now June 1, and so this is a timely reminder that you should ensure you have updated Chrome inside the next 72 hours.

Others organizations should do the same, and mandate full employee compliance.

Credit to Google for the speed and efficiency with which each emergency update was released and announced, notwithstanding the awkward PR. But there remains an urgency for users the world over the ensure the updates have installed. Chrome will update automatically, but users must then close and relaunch their browser.

The first of those vulnerabilities, a “Use after free in Visuals,” was reported on May 9 and added to KEV on May 13. “Google Chromium Visuals contains a use-after-free vulnerability that allows a remote attacker to exploit heap corruption via a crafted HTML page,” CISA warns. “This vulnerability could affect multiple web browsers that utilize Chromium, including… Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera.”

CISA has instructed federal government employees to “apply mitigations per vendor instructions or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.” That means ensuring Chrome’s update has landed and installed. While CISA’s June 3 deadline specifically applies to US federal agencies, other public and private sector organizations should apply the same timeline.

The other Chrome zero-days that made their way into KEV in May—CVE-2024-4761, CVE-2024-4947 and CVE-2024-5274—require updates or discontinuance by June 6, June 10 and June 16 respectively. Clearly, applying an update now should ensure all mitigations have been applied. Ensure your browser updates to 125.0.6422.112/.113 for Windows, Mac and 125.0.6422.112 for Linux—at least.

RUSSIAN AIRSTRIKES HIT HIDEOUTS OF MILITANTS WHO LEFT U.S. GARRISON IN SYRIA’S AL-TANF

Warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) had destroyed two militant hideouts in hard-to-reach mountainous terrain in central Syria, the deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria announced on June 2.

“The Russian Aerospace Forces destroyed two hideouts, used by militants who left the al-Tanf zone and took refuge in hard-to-access areas of the governorates of Homs and Deir Ezzor,” Major General Yury Popov said in a briefing.

Video footage posted to social media on the same day showed Russian strikes against militants hideouts in central Syria. However, it is unclear if these were the same airstrikes announced by the Russian Reconciliation Center.

A day earlier, Syrian media reported strikes by the VKS and the Syrian Arab Air Force against ISIS cells in the eastern Homs countryside. The terrorist group has been leading the insurgency against government forces in central Syria.

Attacks on government forces in the central region increased in recent weeks. At least 21 fighters of the Quds Brigade, a pro-government armed faction of mostly Palestinian fighters in Syria, were killed in an ambush on April 18 near the town of al-Sukhna in the eastern Homs countryside. The attack was blamed on ISIS.

And on May 3 at least 13 fighters of the National Defense Forces were killed in an attack by suspected militants of ISIS in the area of al-Kum, to the north of al-Sukhnah.

Around 200 U.S. troops are usually deployed at garrison in al-Tanf, along with hundreds of militants from a proxy group known as the Syrian Free Army. The coalition maintains a 55-kilometer no-fly zone around al-Tanf. Despite this, VKS warplanes fly over the garrison on a regular basis.

The U.S. claims that it is present in al-Tanf to counter ISIS. Nevertheless, the real purpose of the garrison is to block the strategic Damascus-Baghdad highway. In addition, the garrison is reportedly being used as an outpost to collect intelligence and facilitate Israeli attacks against Syria.

Syrian and Russian officials have repeatedly accused U.S. forces in al-Tanf of training and arming militants, including members of ISIS.

Israeli doctors threaten to leave country if haredi draft exemption is approved

Swathes of doctors have threatened to leave Israel due to the refusal by ultra-Orthodox Jews (haredim) to be drafted into the IDF, according to a document published on Sunday.

The document was written and signed by a thousand senior doctors, most of whom are the heads of medical centers or departments, and called on the government and members of Knesset to take action for equality by drafting haredim into the IDF.

They described the refusal of Israel's ultra-Orthodox community to serve in the military as "destructive to our future." They called for the implementation of a new national socio-economic strategy to help put the country back on a sustainable path to the future.

A Texas company is providing the jet fuel for Israel’s assault on Gaza

San Antonio-based Valero Energy Corporation has been one of Israel's leading suppliers of jet fuel for its genocidal attack on Gaza. A new report says the company may be liable for war crimes.

A new report calls on United States companies to stop supplying Israel’s military with jet fuel and recommends an embargo to achieve this goal.

“Many credible sources have documented crimes under international law being

committed by Israel in the context of its ongoing military campaign in Gaza,” reads a briefing from the Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations (SOMO). “These

include indiscriminate attacks leading to massive loss of civilian life and targeting of

civilian infrastructure amongst other acts which constitute war crimes. Multiple

sources, including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and UN human

rights experts have documented indiscriminate attacks by air which have resulted in

catastrophic civilian casualties.

SOMO specifically cites Valero Energy Corporation, a San Antonio-based company that owns 15 petroleum refineries located in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. Four of them are located in Texas and they all produce jet fuel. In 2023 the company had a revenue of $144 million.

According to USASpending.com, the fuel is transported by the U.S.-based Overseas Shipholding Group. The jet fuel (which is referred to as “JP-8”) is shipped from Corpus Christi, Texas to Ashkelon, Israel by the company, which contracts directly with Israel. The fuel is used by Israel’s Apache attack helicopters, its F-15s, its F-16s, and its Merkava tanks.

“Whether or not companies and executives involved in supplying jet fuel to Israel may incur legal liability for war crimes being perpetrated in Gaza, depends on whether their conduct has a substantial effect on the commission of crimes by the Israeli armed forces and whether the company or its senior executives know or should have known that their conduct has a reasonable likelihood of contributing to the crimes,” the report continues.

The briefing also highlights the legal obligations of states in the wake of the International Court of Justice’s determination that Israel could plausibly be committing genocide.

“Ending the oil supply to Israel would be one of the most effective measures that could be taken in respect of the jet fuel supply chain,” the group concludes. “Given Israel’s domestic capacity to produce jet fuel using imported crude oil, an embargo aimed at preventing atrocities will only be effective if it stops both the export of both jet fuel and crude oil to Israel.”

An American Friends Service Committee investigation found that Valero secured Defense Department contracts to supply Israel with fuel as part of the Foreign Military Sales program from 2001-2004 and in 2008, 2009, and 2012 for a total value of more than $645 million.

Valero also supplies fuel to approximately 7,400 independently owned gas stations branded as Valero, Diamond Shamrock, Shamrock and Beacon in the U.S. and the Caribbean; Ultramar in Canada; and Texaco in the U.K. and Ireland. In addition, the company maintains a political action committee to intervene directly in U.S. elections. In the 2022 election, Valero Energy PAC contributed $532,500 to Republican House candidates and $56,500 to Democratic candidates. The PAC has already spent $387,500 on the 2024, with the vast majority of it going to Republicans.

Recipients include Reps. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and Henry Cuellar (D-TX).
