Did anyone ever consider why Putin invaded Ukraine? We were complaining about all the corruption in the government and the lawless Ukrainian oligarchs - and we were located half a world away? Putin is trying to run a country situated right next to this shithole, like the USA is located right next to Mexico and it's issues of gangs, cartels, crime, and corruption. For good or bad motivations, at least Putin has the balls to try to do something about it. Don't say he's right, or taking the moral high ground, but at least he is acting.
Just remember, like Afghanistan, whatever Putin breaks, he and his country have to try to fix it after - and that will take massive resources of time and treasure. Perhaps that will demand more of their time and attention, and give us some breathing room to handle things closer to home.
Do we, as a country, really want to take on yet another shithole and continue pouring money into it?
I think we would do well, to partner with and/or put pressure on Mexico and Canada to solve some of our more pressing issues (immigration, drugs, human trafficking). Ukraine and Russia will still be out there, and still be fighting each other even after we get our own house in order.
