Five suspects acted independently from each other to prepare an assassination attempt, the Russian agency has claimed ==

Five Ukrainian intelligence agents have been detained in the Russian city of Sevastopol, Moscow’s Federal Security Service (FSB) alleged on Monday. The men were coordinating with Kiev to plot acts of sabotage and at least one assassination, the agency claimed.

The five suspects did not know each other but together formed a spy network handled by Ukraine’s civilian and military special services, the FSB alleged. The operation was busted thanks to intercepted communications, the agency added.

The FSB released multiple images related to the case, including footage of arrests and interrogations, images of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and bomb components, and screenshots of purported communications with Ukrainian handlers.

One of the alleged agents – a former Ukrainian pilot – had been recruited by Kiev in 2018, around four years before the conflict with Moscow erupted into open hostilities, a Russian official claimed.

His main task was to identify former members of the Ukrainian military in the Crimean Peninsula, who could be turned against Russia, the FSB said. He was also allegedly in charge of a location used to store smuggled explosives before they could be recovered by other agents to make IEDs.

The materials indicate that financial incentives were key for the collaborators. One of them allegedly complained to his handler about a $60 debt that he could not pay off and demanded money for his services upfront.

The same suspect was apparently surprised by a package he was instructed to recover. He texted to his handler: “It’s huge. Is it safe?” When later questioned by Russian law enforcement, the man said he would not have taken the item to crowded places, despite assurances that it had posed no danger to him.

Another detainee, a former civilian contractor of the Ukrainian Navy, was allegedly lured into cooperating with Kiev with a promise of receiving medical treatment in Europe, the Russian official claimed. Ukraine never delivered on the supposed promise, he added.

The suspects were reportedly tasked with tracking Russian military assets and conducting reconnaissance for Kiev. However, at least one operation was an apparent attempt to assassinate a particular Russian military service member. An agent was instructed to observe the man’s car to confirm that the target used it, and later to place a magnetic bomb under it, according to the FSB.

Belatedly tapping into a social media platform favored by younger voters, Donald Trump joined TikTok on Saturday and amassed more than 3.1 million followers in his 24 hours on a platform he tried to ban when president.

Trump's inaugural post chronicled the hero's welcome he received when he entered a packed Newark arena for Saturday night's UFC fights, two days after being convicted of falsifying business records, in a blatant case of the judicial system being weaponized for political purposes. By Sunday evening, his first post had racked up 3.2 million likes and more than 125,000 replies.

The video starts with UFC chief executive Dana White announcing, "The president is now on TikTok." Trump replies, "It's my honor." After showing him receiving huge cheers, Trump asks, "That was a good walk-on, right?"

Despite having spotted the Biden campaign a big head start on the platform, Trump is already out to an enormous lead. "Donald Trump has amassed nearly 10 times the amount of followers in a 24-hour period than the Biden campaign has in 4 months," noted Collin Rugg on Twitter. The TikTok play is an obvious effort to reach younger voters who dominate TikTok's 170-million-American user base. In a statement, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said :

“We will leave no front undefended and this represents the continued outreach to a younger audience consuming pro-Trump and anti-Biden content. There’s no place better than a UFC event to launch President Trump’s TikTok, where he received a hero’s welcome and thousands of fans cheered him on.”

Biden's reelection bid is being severely undermined by a loss of ground with what have previously been cornerstone Democratic Party constituencies. In addition to seeing his support sag among Hispanics and blacks, Biden now trails Trump by 6 points among Gen Z and Millennial Americans, according to a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll. The two groups comprise everyone born after 1981 – currently encompassing voters age 18 to 43.

In April, Biden signed into law a deeply controversial measure that gave TikTok's Chinese parent 270 days to sell the platform; a failure to do so would trigger a nationwide ban. Illuminating Biden's obvious insincerity in describing the platform as a danger to Americans, his campaign in April said it would remain on TikTok anyway.

As president, Trump attempted to ban TikTok via executive order. He lost a legal challenge, with Judge Carl Nichols saying the Commerce Department "likely overstepped" its authority under presidential emergency powers.

The Provincial Court of Ciudad Real in central Spain has acquitted a gypsy man accused of continuously sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl, citing the peculiarities of gypsy culture among the reasons behind its ruling. The decision has been condemned by Spain’s equality watchdog as an “absolute disgrace” and a failure to uphold the rights of gypsy minors.

The controversial ruling on the case of a 20-year-old gypsy man who has had “a relationship similar to a marriage” with a 12-year-old girl was publicized by local media last week. The couple began their relationship back in 2022, with both families of the man and the girl aware of it, the court has established.

The girl ultimately became pregnant with twins and went to a doctor, who notified the authorities of the questionable nature of her relationship. Given the fact that the age of sexual consent is set under Spanish law at 16, her ‘spouse’ ended up detained and charged with continuous sexual abuse of a minor, with prosecutors demanding the court sentence him to at least 11 years and six months in jail.

The court, however, opted to acquit the man instead, arguing that the relationship between an adult and a minor was “part of the cultural and social sphere of the gypsy community.” Moreover, the defendant claimed he was not actually aware of the true age of the girl, insisting he had thought she was around 15 years old at the time their relationship began, with the court deeming such an excuse to be “credible” enough.

The judiciary also argued the legal age of consent can be disregarded in the case, arguing the age difference between the two was not large while both showed similar physical and psychological development. It also noted that the relationship between the two has actually been “always consensual in the sense of a romantic relationship.”

The controversial ruling has been strongly condemned by Beatriz Carrillo, the head of the Department of Equal Treatment, Non-Discrimination and Against Racism within the country’s Equality Ministry. The official, an ethnic gypsy herself and long-time advocate for the rights of the minority’s women, branded the ruling an “absolute disgrace.” The decision constituted a gross failure to protect the girl’s rights, the official said, stressing that the country’s “Penal Code does not exclude the protection of gypsy minors.”

Top Judge Blocks Complaints Against Trump Judge Aileen Cannon

The chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit has blocked complaints against the judge overseeing one of former President Donald Trump’s criminal cases.

Chief Judge William Pryor Jr., in a newly released order dated May 22, instructed the circuit court’s clerk to stop accepting new complaints against U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon after the clerk was flooded with complaints.

“Since May 16, 2024, the clerk of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit has received over 1,000 judicial complaints against Judge Cannon that raise allegations that are substantially similar to the allegations raised in previous complaints,” Judge Pryor, an appointee of former President George W. Bush, wrote in the order. “These complaints appear to be part of an orchestrated campaign.”

Judiciary rules enable each judicial council to act when a series of “many essentially identical complaints” from different people flood into the circuit in which the council is based. The council can instruct the circuit clerk “to accept only a certain number of such complaints for filing and to refuse to accept additional complaints.”

Judge Pryor recommended to the council that it instruct the clerk to stop taking additional complaints against Judge Cannon, and the council adopted the recommendation. Judge Pryor entered the new order on behalf of the council.
