2 dead after California train, car crash that was caught on camera

Two people were killed after a train and a car collided in California on Sunday in a dramatic crash captured by the cameras of a nearby brewery.

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority train struck a car carrying two people in it in San Jose around 12:34 p.m., transit officials told KTVU.

In security video from a nearby brewery, customers can be seen sitting outside when the train strikes the car, dragging it along as the train runs off the tracks.

"The corner of my eye just happen to see this dude turning right when the train came and hit him and for a half a second my brain didn't register what it was and then you heard the loudest sound you've ever heard," witness Ryan Stern told ABC7.

San Jose Police said the crossing arms at the railroad crossing were functioning, but the driver of the vehicle tried to drive around them when he was hit by the train. Both of the people in the car were killed in the crash, while the train operator and 20 passengers sustained no serious injuries.

Mick Mulvaney elevates former House aide to deputy role at CFPB

A former aide to the top congressional critic of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will now serve as the No. 2 official at the agency.

Acting CFPB Director Mick Mulvaney announced Monday afternoon that he had selected as deputy director Brian Johnson, an aide who had joined him at the agency after working for House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas.

Johnson will replace Leandra English, the Obama holdover who had pressed a legal claim that she, and not Mulvaney, should be the acting director of the agency. English announced Friday that she would drop the suit and leave the agency.

Number of illegal migrants in EU decreases, while number of those kicked out rise

The number of illegal migrants in the EU in 2017 has decreased, though more non-EU citizens have been ordered to leave the bloc, according to latest figures.

The most recent statistics from Eurostat, the European statistics agency, show that last year there was a 37% decrease compared to 2016 in the number of non-EU citizens illegally present in the EU.

The latest statistics come as debate surrounding migration has been reignited all over Europe, with EU leaders holding a high-stakes summit on the issue.

Last year, 618,780 non-EU citizens were illegally present in the EU. This figure is dropped 71% compared with the peak of 2015.
