US, Israel Sign $3 Billion Deal for Israel To Receive 25 F-35 Fighter Jets

The deal will be financed by US military aid

The US and Israel on Tuesday signed a deal that will provide Israel with 25 new Lockheed Martin-made F-35 fighter jets, demonstrating staunch US support for Israel amid the slaughter and starvation of Palestinians in Gaza.

Israel’s Defense Ministry said the deal is worth $3 billion and will be financed by US military aid. The US provides Israel with $3.8 billion in military each year, and President Biden recently signed a bill that will give Israel an additional $17 billion.

The new fighter jets will start being delivered to Israel in 2028 and will bring Israel’s total fleet of F-35s to 75. According to The Times of Israel, 39 out of 50 F-35 jets that were part of an earlier deal have been delivered so far.

Israel first announced its intention to procure the 25 F-35s from the US back in July 2023. The US is also working to push forward a separate deal that will give Israel 25 F-15 fighter jets.

While President Biden recently warned he could withhold certain heavy bomb shipments to Israel over its attack on Rafah, he hasn’t imposed any consequences as Israel has continued to escalate in the city and massacred civilians in a tent camp with US-provided bombs.

When making the warning, Biden also vowed long-term military support would not change, and administration officials said Israel would get every penny of the new $17 billion in military aid.

Dead Congressman Wins Democratic Primary

Rep. Donald Payne Jr. (D-NJ) won the Democratic Party’s primary in New Jersey on Tuesday, a little more than a month after he died at the age of 65 following a heart attack.

The late congressman appeared as the sole House candidate for the 10th Congressional District on the primary ballot, although voters can submit a “Write-In” alternative. Carmen Bucco won the Republican primary, though he is considered a long shot in the blue district.

County officials from the Democratic Party are expected to call a convention before August and pick someone else to be their nominee for the November election after the primary results are certified on June 17, according to the New Jersey Globe.

The report noted that a special election to determine who will serve the remainder of Payne’s term is also underway. A primary in that contest is set for July 16, followed by a September 18 general election. At least a dozen people, including 11 Democrats and Bucco, are running in that race.

Lebanese Forces Fend Off Attack On U.S. Embassy In Beirut

A Wednesday morning attack on the U.S. Embassy in Beirut was foiled by Lebanese soldiers who shot and captured one gunman — a Syrian national who appeared to be an Islamic jihadist. One embassy security guard was reportedly injured in the attack.

The Lebanese military released a statement saying its forces shot one assailant and released photos of the bloodied alleged attacker that showed him wearing a black vest with the words “Islamic State” written in Arabic and letters “IS” written in English, the Associated Press reported. Lebanon is directly north of Israel and is the home of the Islamic terror group Hezbollah, which launched an attack on Israel one day after Hamas’ October 7 terror attack that killed more than 1,200 people, including Americans.

“At 8:34 a.m. local time, small arms fire was reported in the vicinity of the entrance to the U.S. Embassy. Thanks to the quick reaction of the [Lebanese Armed Forces], [Internal Security Forces], and our Embassy security team, our facility and our team are safe,” the U.S. Embassy Beirut wrote on X. “Investigations are underway and we are in close contact with host country law enforcement.”

An embassy spokesman said information about the injured security guard could not be released at this time “with respect to his privacy,” adding, “we wish him a full recovery.”

Last September, a man was detained by Lebanese forces after he similarly opened fire on the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. No one was injured in that attack, according to the AP. A month later, after Hamas launched its attack on Israel, hundreds of Lebanese demonstrators supporting Hamas clashed with police near the U.S. Embassy.

Since Hamas’ October 7 attack and Hezbollah’s attacks in the days and weeks following, Israel has carried out strikes inside of Lebanon taking out top Hamas and Hezbollah leaders and military facilities. Lebanon is home to many people who hold anti-American and anti-Israel sentiments.

NATO Developing ‘Land Corridors’ To Rush US Troops to Frontlines in Event of War With Russia

The alliance began drawing up plans for war with Russia in 2023

NATO is developing multiple “land corridors” to rush US troops and armored vehicles to the frontlines of a potential future ground war with Russia in Eastern Europe, The Telegraph reported on Tuesday.

Current NATO plans involve US troops landing in ports in the Netherlands and then transported through Germany to Poland, but the alliance is looking to expand the potential routes for US troops to reach the borders of Russia and Ukraine.

Officials told The Telegraph that they want US troops to be able to travel through five different corridors:

Landing in the Netherlands and traveling through Germany to reach Poland

Landing in Italy to travel through Slovenia and Slovakia to reach Hungary

Landing in Greece to travel through Bulgaria to reach Romania

Landing in Turkey to travel through Bulgaria to reach Romania

Landing in Norway to travel through Sweden to reach Finland

The Telegraph report said that under the NATO plan, US troops and vehicles traveling through these countries would not be restricted by local laws, so they could travel quickly. The report said France has complained about its tanks being stuck at foreign borders while trying to deploy to Romania due to bureaucratic processes.

Starting in 2023, NATO has been working on war plans for a potential future conflict with Russia for the first time since the Cold War. The alliance is planning for a possible ground war with Russia despite the obvious risk of any direct NATO-Russia clash quickly escalating into a nuclear exchange.

UN Rights Office Criticises Israel Over Deaths of 500 Palestinians in West Bank

The U.N. human rights office called on Tuesday for an end to violence in which it said Israeli security forces and Jewish settlers have killed more than 500 Palestinians in the West Bank since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

It said in a statement that Israel had used "unnecessary and disproportionate" force in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, and condemned what it said was the systematic denial of medical aid.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the U.N. statement.

Israel's diplomatic mission in Geneva said its actions in the West Bank were in response to what it described as a drastic increase in attacks.

"Israel will continue to operate against Palestinian terrorism, from wherever it emanates, in line with international law, to protect and defend our population," it said.

Miriam Adelson 'Wants West Bank Annexation' in Return for $100M Donation to Trump

Miriam Adelson, the wife of the late Israel First GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson, is reportedly donating at least $100 million to Donald Trump and wants his support for Israel annexing the West Bank in return.

That's according to a new column from the Israeli paper Haaretz titled, "Trump is Desperate for Miriam Adelson's Cash. Her Condition: West Bank Annexation" (Archive):

After five months during which he refused to make clear his position on the Israel-Hamas war, instead sniping at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, thanks to [pressure from Miriam] Adelson [withhold donations], Trump finally expressed unequivocal support for Israel. However, according to [New York Magazine's Elizabeth Weil's recent article on Miriam Adelson], Trump made a tactical error that distanced him from the money he so desperately wants. "You have to finish up your war," he said. "You have to finish it up. You got it done. And I'm sure you'll do that. And we got to get to peace." Adelson, a resident of Herzliya and a megadonor for settlement development in the West Bank, did not wish to hear Trump yearning for peace. She didn't want to hear anything that could have been construed as criticism of Israel. According to the report, what she really wants from Trump's second term is an Israeli annexation of the West Bank and a U.S. recognition of Israeli sovereignty in all the regions of the land. Under these conditions, there's no room for the Palestinian Authority, and nobody to sign a peace accord with.

The New York Magazine story ends with an implicit threat to Trump: "The presidential election is five months away. Adelson continues to sit out the race." Within just 10 days, Politico reported that the former president and Adelson met and spoke on the phone several times since that March dinner. What they talked about remained unreported, but Trump's give-and-take relationships with his billionaire donors tend to replicate themselves.

Adelson is not the only major donor; others also come with their lists of demands. The Washington Post recently reported about another meeting between Trump and some donors, a group which, Trump said, included "98 percent of my Jewish friends." During this meeting in New York on May 14, donors asked Trump about students demonstrating against Israel on campuses, and he replied: "Any student that protests, I throw them out of the country. You know, there are a lot of foreign students. As soon as they hear that, they're going to behave." When one of the unnamed donors complained that students and professors could one day hold positions of power, Trump called the demonstrators part of a "radical revolution" that he vowed to defeat. "If you get me elected, and you should really be doing this, … we're going to set that [pro-Palestinian] movement back 25 or 30 years."

IRGC CHIEF SAYS ISRAEL WILL FACE RESPONSE FOR KILLING IRANIAN ADVISOR IN SYRIA

The commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami has vowed to retaliate to a recent Israeli strike on Syria that claimed the life of an Iranian advisor.

“Israel must wait for a response to the killing of Iranian military adviser Saeed Aviar in Syria,” Salami is quoted as saying by Iranian media outlets.

Aviar was killed in an Israeli strike that targeted the northern Syrian governorate of Aleppo on June 2. According to The New York Times, Aviar was in the IRGC’s expeditionary Quds Force and had been stationed in Syria since 2012. He reportedly held the rank of general.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that as many as 16 Iranian-backed fighters, including Syrian nationals and foreigners, were killed in the same Israeli strike which targeted the town of Hayyan in the western countryside of Aleppo.

However, it is important to note that the London-based pro-opposition monitoring group was accused in the past of inflating the losses of the Syrian government and its allies.

Israel escalated its attacks on Syria after the outbreak of the war in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza Strip, targeting Syrian military sites as well as personnel of the IRGC and its affiliates like Lebanon’s Hezbollah and the Palestinian Hamas Movement.

The strikes have slowed down however since the April 1 deadly Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus, that triggered Iran’s first-ever direct missile and drone attack on Israel.

It remains unclear how the IRGC could respond to the killing of its advisor in Syria, especially considering that Iran is currently awaiting presidential elections after the sudden death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash last month.
