We need to talk about what bombs do in war. Bombs shred flesh. Bombs shatter bones. Bombs dismember. Bombs cause brains, lungs, and other organs to shake so violently they bleed, rupture, and cease functioning. Bombs injure. Bombs kill. Bombs destroy.

Bombs also make people rich.

When a bomb explodes, someone profits. And when someone profits, bombs claim more unseen victims. Every dollar spent on a bomb is a dollar not spent saving a life from a preventable death, a dollar not spent curing cancer, a dollar not spent educating children. That’s why, so long ago, retired five-star general and President Dwight D. Eisenhower rightly called spending on bombs and all things military a “theft.”

The perpetrator of that theft is perhaps the world’s most overlooked destructive force. It looms unnoticed behind so many major problems in the United States and the world today. Eisenhower famously warned Americans about it in his 1961 farewell address, calling it for the first time “the military-industrial complex,” or the MIC.

Start with the fact that, thanks to the MIC’s ability to hijack the federal budget, total annual military spending is far larger than most people realize: around $1,500,000,000,000 ($1.5 trillion). Contrary to what the MIC scares us into believing, that incomprehensibly large figure is monstrously out of proportion to the few military threats facing the United States. One-and-a-half trillion dollars is about double what Congress spends annually on all non-military purposes combined.

Calling this massive transfer of wealth a “theft” is no exaggeration, since it’s taken from pressing needs like ending hunger and homelessness, offering free college and pre-K, providing universal health care, and building a green energy infrastructure to save ourselves from climate change. Virtually every major problem touched by federal resources could be ameliorated or solved with fractions of the cash claimed by the MIC. The money is there.

The bulk of our taxpayer dollars are seized by a relatively small group of corporate war profiteers led by the five biggest companies profiting off the war industry: Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon (RTX), Boeing, and General Dynamics. As those companies have profited, the MIC has sowed incomprehensible destruction globally, keeping the United States locked in endless wars that, since 2001, have killed an estimated 4.5 million people, injured tens of millions more, and displaced at least 38 million, according to Brown University’s Costs of War Project.

The MIC’s hidden domination of our lives must end, which means we must dismantle it. That may sound totally unrealistic, even fantastical. It is not. And by the way, we’re talking about dismantling the MIC, not the military itself. (Most members of the military are, in fact, among that the MIC’s victims.)

While profit has long been part of war, the MIC is a relatively new, post-World War II phenomenon that formed thanks to a series of choices made over time. Like other processes, like other choices, they can be reversed and the MIC can be dismantled.

The question, of course, is how?

She added that the ideas of global dominance, of the exceptionalism of some nations amid the destruction of ethnic and cultural identities of others have repeatedly been expressed by Western leaders. She went on to say that these ideas are not shared by the global majority, which has already embraced the concept of multipolarity.

“We should not forget, they are a minority – the Collective West… their worldview is shared by no one except for them,” she said, citing memorandums adopted by multinational blocs as the Russian-led BRICS group, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, African Union, and others, in which member states commit to forming a multipolar world order.

“The SCO… covers 3 billion people – half of humanity… BRICS covers over 30% of the Earth’s land mass, 45% of the world population – some 3.5 billion people, and 33% of global GDP… 3% more than the GDP of the G7,” she stated.

Zakharova noted that even in the West, some analysts claim that “the US has not been a world hegemon for a long time,” while “its actions in the international arena have led to the destabilization of world politics.” However, until there are significant changes in policy and ideology, Russia and its global allies have “a long struggle ahead” to form a truly polycentric world order, she said.

“While our cause is not simple, it is worthy and noble. And we will walk this path as a global majority. We don’t call it a mission, though, we call it our goal and objective.”

As Homeless Crisis Worsens Multiple States Move To Criminalize Homelessness

As the homelessness epidemic in the United States continues to intensify, the CIA backed Cicero Institute is behind a nationwide push to pass legislation criminalizing the unhoused and the potentiality of FEMA camp style internment as the "solution".

A confluence of horrific policies is converging that threatens the freedom of homeless people in the United States. Governors and big city mayors across the western United States are demanding the “right” to drive the homeless from view and have pushed for the Supreme Court to remove the Martin v. Boise restrictions on criminalizing the unhoused.

The case of Johnson v. Grants Pass, based on the Martin decision that bans as cruel and unusual punishment the charging of people criminally if there is no shelter available, was heard on April 22, 2024, at the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.

The Supreme Court’s decision is likely to be announced by the end of June 2024, potentially impacting a growing number of cities and states which have passed harsh laws making it a crime to sleep outside. At the same time the number of Americans becoming homeless is increasing.

“A 2023 survey conducted by Payroll.org highlighted that 78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, a 6% increase from the previous year,” Forbes magazine reported in April 2024. According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, there was an 11% increase in the number of Americans who became homeless in 2023. This crisis is likely to increase and America’s intelligence agencies are among those willing to provide a solution.

One such organization is the CIA-linked Cicero Institute that is pushing a “solution” to the homeless crisis that could lead to governments coercing people into FEMA camps. The Cicero Institute provides a “Model Bill” it calls “Reducing Street Homelessness Act” to state and city legislators, which the institute’s website notes is legislation based on Missouri’s HB 1606 from 2022.

Billionaire Joe Lonsdale started the Cicero Institute in 2016. His institute focuses on government policy and the problem of homelessness. He also co-founded CIA contractor Palantir Technologies with several others, including PayPal’s Peter Thiel. He also co-founded Addepar, OpenGov and is a partner at 8VC, his venture capital firm. Palantir’s first backer was the Central Intelligence Agency’s venture capital arm In-Q-Tel.

Lonsdale’s Palantir is an AI military contractor known for three projects: Palantir Gotham, Palantir Apollo, and Palantir Foundry. Palantir Gotham is used by counter-terrorism analysts at offices in the United States Intelligence Community (USIC) and the Department of Defense. They are providing help to Israel in targeting Palestinians in Gaza.

Google and Amazon are also collaborating with U.S. defense contractors like Palantir to migrate Israel’s war-fighting capabilities onto their cloud services and, additionally, are helping to reshape the battlefield in Ukraine by improving drone-strike capabilities and targeting.

The Nation magazine reports, “As one of the world’s most advanced data-mining companies, with ties to the CIA, Palantir’s ‘work’ was supplying Israel’s military and intelligence agencies with advanced and powerful targeting capabilities—the precise capabilities that allowed Israel to place three drone-fired missiles into three clearly marked [World Central Kitchen] aid vehicles.

Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie introduced a bill today to end the Biden Administration’s endless cashflow for developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for so-called “disinformation.”

The mere 83-word bill, H.R. 8519, lays out the House Republicans’ plan to defund the federal government’s online censorship research:

To prohibit the obligation or expenditure of Federal funds for disinformation research grants, and for other purposes.

The aforementioned NSF’s Track F program was identified as a threat to online free speech in a report by the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government in February 2024.

“As the distributor of multi-million-dollar grants, the National Science Foundation (NSF) is a key player in the ‘censorship industrial complex” acting “under the guise of combatting so-called misinformation,” read the report. “NSF has been funding AI-driven tools and other new technologies that can be used to censor or propagandize online speech.”

Cuba Confirms The Arrival Of Three Russian Ships And A Nuclear Submarine

Agroup of Russian naval ships, including a nuclear-powered submarine, will visit Cuba next week as part of “historically friendly relations,” Cuba’s government said Thursday.

The Russian “frigate Gorshkov, the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan, the fleet oil tanker Pashin, and the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker” will visit the port of Havana between June 12 and 17, according to the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces in a statement published by the Foreign Ministry.

Cuba says none of the ships carry nuclear weapons and insists their stopover does not represent a threat to the region.

“Visits by naval units from other countries are a historical practice of the revolutionary government with nations that maintain relations of friendship and collaboration,” the statement added.

It’s not the first time Russian Navy ships have been sent to Cuba, a key ally to the former Soviet Union during the Cold War that briefly hosted nuclear missiles at Moscow’s behest during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

US involved in Israeli operation in Nuseirat that killed over 200 Palestinians

Four captives released and taken to hospital as Israeli bombs pound central Gaza

The Israeli military had US support in rescuing four captives from Gaza in a "complex daytime operation" in Nuseirat that killed over 200 Palestinians.

A US official told Axios that the US hostages cell in Israel had "supported" the effort to rescue the captives.

Earlier on Saturday, the army said it had been "targeting terrorist infrastructure in the Nuseirat area", north of the town of Deir al-Balah in the centre of the besieged enclave.

The Palestinian government media office in Gaza said the death toll from Israel's attack on central Gaza had reached at least 210, with 400 more wounded.

The Palestinian health ministry confirmed that a large number of dead and wounded Palestinian had arrived at Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital. It said that most of them were children and women.

"The occupation has annihilated the Nuseirat refugee camp. Innocent and unarmed civilian were bombed in their homes. I've never seen anything like this. It's a catastrophe," local Nidal Abdo told Middle East Eye.

"I came from the camp to here in the hospital on foot. I can't describe how we fled. I saw dead children and body parts strewn all over as we fled. No one was able to assist them. I saw an elderly man killed on a animal-drawn cart.

"Nuseirat was being annihilated. It was hell."

Hamas released a statement on Saturday condemning US complicity in the operation.

It said: "American participation in the criminal operation that was carried out today proves once again the complicit role of the American administration, its full participation in the war crimes committed in the Gaza Strip, [and] the falsity of its declared positions on the humanitarian situation and its concern for the lives of civilians."

Hamas said that the announcement of the "release of a number of its prisoners" in Gaza, referring to rescued Israeli captives, would not change Israel's "strategic failure in the Gaza Strip" after eight months of "massacres, genocide, siege and starvation".

"Our valiant resistance still maintains the largest number in its possession, and is capable of increasing its yield of prisoners," the statement said.

The four Israeli captives rescued were named as Noa Argamani, Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov and Shlomi Ziv.

The four, who were reportedly in good health, were taken to Tel Hashomer hospital for further evaluation.

All four were captured by Hamas on 7 October from the Supernova music festival.

Pictures on Saturday appeared to show Argamani hugging her father after being released.

"The heroic operation by the [Israeli army] that freed and brought home Noa Argamani, Shlomi Ziv, Andrey Kozlov, and Almog Meir Jan is a miraculous triumph," the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said in a statement.

War cabinet member Benny Gantz on Saturday canceled a news conference planned for the evening, during which he was expected to announce his National Unity party was leaving the government.

TRAGEDY IN KHERSON: DOZENS CIVILIANS KILLED IN UKRAINIAN STRIKE ON LOCAL SHOP

At least 22 civilians were killed in Ukrainian strikes targeting the village of Sadovoe in Russia’s Kherson Region. A nine-year-old child was killed among the victims of the attack.

According to Kherson Region, Governor Vladimir Saldo, the strike hit a small shop in a residential area. When locals rushed to aid the victims of the first strike, a second one hit the same area.

Moreover, at least 15 people were also injured in the strike, Saldo added. Five of them are currently in “critical condition.” The shop was full of customers at the time of the attack.

According to Saldo, Kyiv’s forces first used a guided bomb to strike the shop before hitting the same area with a US-made M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) multiple rocket launcher.

A May 23, 2023, email from Damon Marx, senior counsel in the office of New York Democrat Rep. Dan Goldman, shows that the FBI provided documents apparently pertaining to the whistleblowers that were “very helpful” to Goldman.

But I will not jeopardize the ability of our prosecutors and agents to do their jobs effectively in future investigations. I will not be intimidated. And the Justice Department will not be intimidated. We will continue to do our jobs free from political influence. And we will not back down from defending democracy,” Garland stated.
