New York Justice Jeffrey K. Oing

Opinions about Justice Oing are mixed. On Nov. 25, 2022 the New York Post reported that Oing was one of 7 justices on an "extraordinary list" being considered for an appointment (by Kathy Hochul) as Chief Judge of the Appeals Court. In Dec. of 2022 the New York Law Journal said Oing was "Viewed as Highly Personable Consensus-Builder". On Dec. 8, 2022, the New York City Bar reported that Law360 found Justice Oing to be unqualified to be Chief Judge. On Dec. 12, 2022, the Asian American Bar Association of New York urged Gov. Hochul to appoint Oing as Chief Judge of the NY Court of Appeals. A New York Courts PDF seems to indicate that Oing has benefited as a result of the diversity push.
