Mass AIS Spoofing Event "Moves" Dozens of Ships to Crimean Airport

Published Jun 5, 2024 6:25 PM by Giangiuseppe Pili, Alessio Armenzoni and Gary Kessler

In early June 2024, dozens of merchant ships began transmitting AIS positions that put them at airports in the occupied Crimean peninsula and the Russian Federation. As of June 4, 2024, nearly 50 vessels broadcast their location as the International Airport of Simferopol, Crimea, and approximately 30 vessels at Gelendzhik Airport near Novorossiysk. Though AIS spoofing is known to occur in the Black Sea region, an event of this magnitude is uncommon.

The number of these ships varies over time. In the previous few days, fewer ships were spoofed at these locations, while their number increased from June 3. The massive spoofing event appears to target all kinds of vessels, from bulk carriers to tankers and tugboats, which keep appearing and disappearing at improbable speeds in excess of 40 knots (and sometimes greater than 100 knots). For example, AIS data on June 4 showed the crude oil tanker Coatlique (IMO: 9235000) sailing at 102.2 knots while at anchor.

Many of the vessels appearing in Crimea are Russian-flagged and their real position is unknown for now, although is reasonable to assume their presence nearby in the area around the Kerch Strait, a position where Coatlique is known for loitering with frequent AIS blackouts and for engaging in STS transfers. Some of these vessels had experienced spoofing events in the past as well. By the morning of June 5, the spoofing event was over and the vessels no longer appeared at the airport.

At Gelendzhik Airport the situation is the same, with some vessels sailing at 50 knots on the airport's runway. For example, crude oil tanker Athina M (IMO: 9644237) broadcast its position in the airport with a velocity of 0.0 kn, while her real position remains unknown (though certainly in the Black Sea).

It's very likely that this event is correlated to the electronic warfare and jamming activities of the Russo-Ukrainian war taking place a few miles from these two locations. However, AIS disturbance involving such a large number of vessels, and in two locations at the same time, is something that hasn't happened in a while. This is reminiscent of a mass spoofing event that involved Atria (IMO 9595137, now Stromboli M) and nearly two dozen other vessels in June 2017.

BREAKING: Puerto Rico’s Election Commission Reviews Dominion’s Contract For Nov. Election After Hundreds of Discrepancies Reported In Primary Election, Including Machines Incorrectly Counting and Reversing Totals

by Patty McMurray Jun. 12, 2024 5:15 pm

Puerto Rico’s elections commission has announced that is will be reviewing its contract prior to the November 2024 election with Dominion Voting Systems after finding hundreds of discrepancies while using over 6,000 Dominion Voting machines during their heated primary elections.

AP reports – The problem stemmed from a software issue that caused machines supplied by Dominion Voting Systems to incorrectly calculate vote totals, said Jessika Padilla Rivera, the commission’s interim president.

While no one is contesting the results from the June 2 primary that correctly identified the winners, machine-reported vote counts were lower than the paper ones in some cases, and some machines reversed certain totals or reported zero votes for some candidates.

“The concern is that we obviously have elections in November, and we must provide the (island) not only with the assurance that the machine produces a correct result but also that the result it produces is the same one that is reported,” Padilla said.

This isn’t the first time states or counties have discussed canceling their contracts with Dominion Voting Systems.

In an interview with Georgia’s SOS Brad Raffensberger, who many believe is an untrustworthy election official, 60 Minutes was asked about the reliability of the Dominion Voting machines. The 60 Minutes host cited an interview with Chris Krebs that he claimed was evidence of clean elections in Georgia because Dominion Voting machines totals can be reconciled with paper ballots.

But that’s not what University of Michigan computer scientist Alex Halderman proved in a Georgia courtroom where he showed.

Former Fox News host Lou Dobbs, who has been at the forefront of reporting on voter fraud, spoke with Amber Conner of the Gateway Pundit about what Professor Halderman did in the courtroom.

During the ongoing trial, Halderman demonstrated how a voting machine could be tampered with in mere seconds using everyday items—a Bic pen and a $10 smart card—raising questions about the reliability of the Dominion voting equipment used across the state. Haldreman’s demonstration illuminated glaring susceptibilities within Georgia’s voting infrastructure, casting shadows on the security of its election system.

Fiji’s New Patrol Boat Evacuated After Grounding on First Patrol

Published Jun 12, 2024 5:11 PM by The Maritime Executive

The Government of Fiji and the Fiji Navy are working to manage a major embarrassment after the country’s new patrol boat, a gift from Australia, grounded halfway through its maiden deployment. The sailors were safely evacuated while a crisis management team is working to save the vessel which is reported to be on a reef and flooding.

RFNS Puamau built by Australian shipbuilder Austal was delivered in March 2024 as part of an ongoing program of goodwill and mutual security between Australia and the neighboring island nations. The vessel, valued at approximately US$10.6 million, had just completed days of safety and survival at sea training. It had embarked on a two-week maiden patrol.

The Fiji Navy confirmed that the vessel grounded on Monday in the southeastern reaches of the island nation. Reports indicate it is in the remote Lau group of islands, with ABC News Australia calling it a “treacherous area” with difficult sea passages.

There were reports of strong winds in the area, but the Navy will only say that the cause of the cause of the incident will be investigated. Learning of the grounding, the Navy dispatched another Austal-built patrol boat, RFNS Savenaca to the scene. They report without specifying a number that the crew was safely evacuated and surveys do not show any pollution coming from the patrol boat.

Media reports are indicating that the engine room of the patrol boat is flooding and efforts are underway to pump out the water and stabilize the vessel. The Australian Defence Force is also providing aerial assistance.

“Damage control teams, comprised of Navy divers and Navy engineers, are effecting temporary fixes and devising strategies for the removal of all fuel and the patrol boat’s de-storing, with aerial and surface assessments confirming the absence of any spills,” the Fiji Navy wrote in an update from earlier today. “The crisis management team continues to oversee the operation from HQ Navy in collaboration with key stakeholders.”

The vessel was the first of four Guardian-class Patrol Boats scheduled for delivery by Austal’s Western Australian shipyards in 2024 and the nineteenth delivered as part of the Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement Project initially awarded to Austal Australia in May 2016. The shipbuilder is receiving more than A$350 million (US$233 million), and delivering patrol boats being gifted by Australia to Papua New Guinea, Fiji, the Federated States of Micronesia, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau, Samoa, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Timor-Leste.

The vessels are approximately 130-foot (39.5-meter) steel monohull patrol boats designed, constructed, and sustained by Austal Australia. According to the shipbuilder, they are faster than the previous Pacific-class patrol boats, with improved seakeeping, better amenities, and an enhanced mission capability. They have an integrated RHIB stern launch and recovery system and were designed to carry out border patrols, regional policing, search and rescue, and other operations domestically and internationally.

The media is saying that the vessels however received criticism with reports of defects including with the exhaust system. The Australian Department of Defence reportedly issued an advisory to the various nations on how to operate the vessels to reduce risks.

Concerns are being raised for the new vessel because of its exposed position and challenging sea conditions which could delay salvage efforts. The Fiji Navy said after the safe recovery of the crew and assisting their families, its focus is on safely recovering the vessel.

Real Estate Investor Says Nobody Wants to do Business in New York City Following Trump Verdict

Gateway Pundit, by Mike LaChance 5/31/2024 11:28:29 PM

Real estate investor Grant Cardone appeared on the fox Business Network this week following the Trump verdict and said that it is going to have far reaching effects on the city’s economy. He suggested that nobody (including him) wants to do business in New York City anymore because they no longer trust the political and legal system there. Cardone says that the people who are invested in his company wouldn’t even allow him to do business there. From FOX Business: “If they can do this to Donald Trump, a former president, regardless of how you feel about the politics, if they can do this to a former president, what can they do to Grant Cardone? What can they do to any other businessman?,” the Cardone Capital founder also chimed in Friday on “Varney & Co.”

Cardone recently pulled his business out of the Empire State and cautioned that Trump’s legal troubles — including a previous $355 million fine in a New York civil fraud case in February — would “wreak financial havoc” on the city.

“I have 15,000 investors with me at Cardone Capital. We’ve raised $1.3 billion. If I went to them today and said, ‘I want to invest in New York City,’ they would not give me money to do that,” the investor argued.

“That’s one of the greatest cities on planet Earth. And nobody wants to go there and do business,” Cardone continued. “I blame the legal system. Clearly, the political system has been weaponized.”

New York City is already struggling under the weight of crime, reduced revenue due to people leaving, and the border crisis.

Now they are also going to deal with fewer investments from people just like Cardone.

This situation is going to have an impact on NYC that will last a long time and in ways that cannot even be seen yet.

takes true stupidity to piss off Russia and China at the same time

U.S. Sanctions LNG Carriers and Chinese Yard to Disrupt Russian Energy Projects

By Malte Humpert (gCaptain) – June 13, 2024

New U.S. economic sanctions expand efforts to degrade Russia’s future energy production and export capacity. Measures for the first time target specific ice-capable liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and extend sanctions to a Chinese construction yard instrumental in assembling liquefaction modules.

“The Department’s designations constrain Russia’s future energy revenues, building on previous sanctions stalling the development of Arctic LNG 2 and other Russian future energy projects,” a U.S. State Department spokesperson stated.

The U.S. announced measures against seven LNG carriers constructed by the Far East Zvezda shipyard. Five vessels have been launched and are awaiting sea and gas trials, with two more under construction. The vessels in question are Alexey Kosygin, Pyotr Stolypin, Sergei Witte and thus far unnamed hulls Zvezda 044, Zvezda 045, Zvezda 046, Zvezda 047. The first four vessels are affiliated with already-sanctioned Russian operator Sovcomflot.

Six LNGC of the same type built by South Korean Hanwha Ocean, while not directly targeted by sanctions, remain in limbo as the yard has been unable to transfer them to Novatek or operators affiliated with sanctioned Arctic LNG 2.

The ice-capable LNGCs are critically needed to begin exports from Novatek’s Arctic LNG 2 project. The company expects to take delivery of at least two vessels in the coming months. The project was initially scheduled to begin production late last year, but six months later not a single delivery has been made.

Meanwhile, Novatek has been making preparations to assemble a fleet of conventional LNGCs to provide service to its project this summer. Non ice-class vessels are permitted in Russia’s Arctic waters as early as July 1. Nearly a dozen LNGCs have already received permits to travel along Russia’s Northern Sea Route this summer.

In addition to targeting Russia’s transport capacity, the U.S. has for the first time sanctioned a Chinese yard manufacturing large-scale modules for Russia’s LNG projects.

Over the past four years Penglai Jutal Offshore Engineering Heavy Industries has completed a dozen modules, each weighing in excess of 10,000 tons, for Novatek’s Arctic LNG 2 project. The modules are then transported via heavy lift vessels to Russia’s Arctic.

“Today, the Department is designating a PRC-based shipyard operator involved in the manufacture and shipment of highly specialized liquefied natural gas (LNG) modules designed specifically for Russia’s Arctic LNG 2 project,” a U.S. Treasury spokesperson said.

Penglai shipped its modules containing critical liquefaction technology aboard previously blocked vessels, including Audax and Pugnax, as recently as last month. Chinese heavy lift vessel Wei Xiao Tian Shi, is currently en route with two modules from Penglai’s yard to Novatek’s construction site near Murmansk.
