"Sinhue the Egyptian" is a really fascinating read, describing life in many nations of the ancient world. It describes seemingly modern technology in Crete (water flows from silver taps and the instruments play themselves with no musician). The burqa is described as the traditional garb of Ball worshipers, and "Jahveh" is the god of desert bandits.

There are so many strange things that I question the legitimacy of the text, but it's surely fascinating.
