PARIS—Serge Klarsfeld is a world-renowned Nazi hunter, a historian of the Holocaust and a moral authority in France who has pushed the country to reckon with its dark history of antisemitism.
That is why many in France were shocked this week when Klarsfeld defended the far-right party of Marine Le Pen, which counts among its founders a former Nazi paramilitary soldier. Klarsfeld, an 88-year-old Holocaust survivor, said the main threat to France’s Jews now comes from the far left and that he wouldn’t hesitate to vote for Le Pen’s party, the National Rally, in the coming parliamentary elections if the alternative were a coalition of leftist parties, the New Popular Front.
“The National Rally supports Jews, supports the state of Israel,” Klarsfeld said on national television. “When there is an anti-Jewish party and a pro-Jewish party, I will vote for the pro-Jewish party.”

It’s an election year. Donald Trump and other Republican Party leaders have refused to commit to accepting November’s results. Trump has referred to those who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 as “warriors.”
There is growing concern that this year’s elections could lead to — or even be decided by — political violence. My colleagues and I treat violence, including political violence, as a health problem. That’s not a conceptual stretch. Political violence on a large scale could kill and injure thousands of people and have a broad array of adverse effects on American society that would persist for generations.
The best approach to intervening in such problems starts with getting into the field and understanding them better. Beginning in 2022, our group has conducted a large, annual, nationally representative longitudinal survey of Americans’ support for and personal willingness to engage in political violence.
Many of our findings are deeply concerning. In 2022, nearly one-third of participants (32.8 percent) considered violence to be usually or always justified to advance at least one political objective. Some groups were much more likely than others to endorse political violence: Republicans and MAGA-supporting Republicans in particular;those who endorse QAnon, the white supremacy movement, Christian nationalists and other extreme right-wing organizations and movements; and firearm owners — but only by a small margin, unless they owned assault-type rifles, had bought firearms during the COVID pandemic or regularly carried loaded firearms in public.
With 2023’s results, the list grew to include racists, sexists, xenophobes, homophobes, transphobes Islamophobes and antisemites.
In most cases, participants who were more supportive of political violence were also more willing to commit it themselves. Here’s just one example: 8.8 percent of firearm owners who regularly carried loaded firearms in public, but only 0.5 percent of owners who never carried, thought it very likely or extremely likely that, at some time in the future, they would shoot someone to advance a political objective.

Southwest Airlines Flight 4069 was nine miles away from Will Rogers World Airport just after midnight on Wednesday when records show the 737 dived to between 400 and 500 feet as it flew over a high school in the city of Yukon.
Doorbell camera footage showed the Boeing 737 MAX-8 then hovering above houses, before it flies out of frame. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident and SouthWest has confirmed they are working with them to address any 'irregularities'.
A resident was startled awake by the plane's engine and wondered if the aircraft was set for a collision. 'It woke me up and I thought it was gonna hit my house,' the resident wrote on the Yukon Happenings Facebook page, according to The Oklahoman.

Billionaire and Democrat mega-donor Reid Hoffman is scared of retaliation against himself and others who go against Donald Trump should the ex-president retake the White House.
The LinkedIn co-founder has consistently antagonized Trump, even using his non-profit to fund E. Jean Carroll's successful lawsuit against the former commander in chief. Hoffman, typically a donor to establishment Democrats, gave $250,000 to a super PAC backing Nikki Haley in an attempt to hurt Trump's primary race.
Despite being one of the richest men on earth, he says he fears reprisal from Trump for funding his political enemies. 'Of course I'm concerned,' Hoffman said, claiming Trump “will persecute his political opponents with the instruments of state.”
Hoffman - who was part of a group of tech executives and investors called 'the PayPal mafia' in the 1990s before co-founding LinkedIn and selling to Microsoft for $26.2 billion in 2013 - says that he's not alone among his fellow one percenters in facing Trump's wrath.
