While Thunberg’s post did not say humanity would end in five years — we did make it past 2023 after all — there was one glaring problem with it. The article that Thunberg linked misquoted the scientist who made the relevant remarks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly signaled his willingness to engage in meaningful negotiations with foreign powers, Peskov told reporters when asked for comment on the latest remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron.

“The president has repeatedly stated his openness to negotiations, especially constructive negotiations, meant to achieve certain results,” the spokesman explained.

“We are ready for dialogue to the extent that our counterparts are ready for it. There are absolutely no conditions for this,” he added.

Macron touched on the prospects of negotiating with the Russian president while speaking on the Generation Do It Yourself podcast. Canada urged its citizens in Lebanon on Tuesday to leave “while they can,” warning of the risk of escalating violence between Israel and Hezbollah in the region.

Foreign Minister Melanie Joly in a statement called for Canadians to depart while commercial flights remain in operation.

“The security situation in Lebanon is becoming increasingly volatile and unpredictable due to sustained and escalating violence between Hezbollah and Israel and could deteriorate further without warning,” she said.

“If the armed conflict intensifies,” she said, it could make it harder to leave the country and for Canada to provide consular services to tens of thousands of Canadians believed to be living in the country.

White B.C. chief librarian implements diversity hiring for all jobs except her own

The head at a public library in British Columbia boasted that applications from white people were wholly disregarded when hiring for every executive position except her own.

Beth Davis, the chief librarian at Burnaby Public Library, stated in a mid-term report that when filling six job openings, the library rejected any résumés from white candidates.

Only non-white applicants were interviewed.

Though the Human Rights Code of B.C. bans discrimination against individuals based on “race, colour, or ancestry,” Burnaby Public Library received a five-year exemption to violate what otherwise would have been considered a human right – in the name of “equity.”

The B.C. Office of the Human Rights Commissioner website mentions a recognition that the “special program.” exemption curtails equality rights but is justified in the pursuit of “substantive equality,” which is commonly referred to as equity or equality of outcome.

“Equality means that each person is treated fairly and with dignity. It means that ‘no one is denied opportunities for reasons that have nothing to do with inherent ability,’” it said. “However, treating everyone the same can sometimes lead to discrimination against disadvantaged individuals or groups. Sometimes, to advance human rights objectives, we need to look at treating people differently.”

Durham Region held its fifth annual pride event geared toward children and families this weekend, but it was clear from the onset some Canadians were not welcome at the “inclusive” event.

“We will not tolerate ideologies that exclude,” one of the speakers said in the opening remarks of Durham Youth Pride on Saturday at the Durham Regional Headquarters.

Information and resource booths from pride and community organizations across Durham Region were set up, and two Drag Queens, “Sofonda Cox” and “Wilma Checklear”, performed and led dance parties with kids.

The 400-seat theatre was at capacity as audience members anticipated the first session on health and science, featuring TV personality and addictions specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky, Stanford University professor of medicine Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, and other medical professionals who reminisced on the unscientific premises of COVID lockdowns, masks, and vaccines.

A group of approximately 50 protesters from the group “1 Million Voices for Inclusion” were gathered outside the venue on Saturday morning, with many prominently flying flags of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and the BC General Employees’ Union.

Local B.C. NDP MLA Grace Lore was also present at the protest to pressure the Victoria Conference Centre into cancelling the conference and rejecting bookings from freedom-minded groups.

The protest quickly dwindled to a group of ten who wrote phrases such as “Hormones Save Lives,” and “Queer Liberation Now” in chalk on the pavement, as well as repeated scrawls of “Shame.”

Carbon, fuel tax removal keeps two provinces’ inflation rates lower than rest of country

Two provinces are still prospering from cutting taxes on fuel, as inflation in Saskatchewan and Manitoba rose at half the rate as the rest of the country.

While inflation in Canada rose 2.9% between May 2023 and May 2024, inflation in Manitoba grew by 1.3% and by 1.5% in Saskatchewan. No other provinces saw their consumer price index increase less than 2.6%, according to Statistics Canada’s most recent data.

The province where inflation rose the most was Nova Scotia, which saw its CPI increase by 3.7% between May 2023 and May 2024.

Nearly half the people arrested by Ontario’s Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force were out on bail at the time of their arrest, a number that skyrockets to almost three-quarters for minors.

Between Sept. 2023 and Mar. 2024, the task force made 124 arrests, laid 749 criminal charges, seized eight firearms, and recovered 177 stolen vehicles — valued at over $10 million.

The task force was co-led by the Toronto Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police, along with various other local police services from Ontario.

Toronto Police Deputy Chief Robert Johnson emphasized that law enforcement is just one branch of the system.

“It’s really concerning that 44% of those arrested were out on bail at the time of their arrest, and 61% were subsequently released on bail yet again,” he said during the Toronto Police Service’s press conference.

Quebec City is asking nearly 200,000 residents to reduce their water usage while it fixes a leak in a major pipe in the Rivieres borough of the city.

The break will be under repair from June 26 to July 5, reports Le Soleil.

The pipeline is one of three that connect to the Quebec water treatment plant.

The night before the work started, the City called on media outlets to spread messages requesting citizens to reduce their water usage.

The municipality is asking for citizens to limit non-essential use of drinking water. The city is putting in place a series of recommendations, particularly for outdoor use such as cleaning, watering laws, and filling swimming pools.

Transport Canada officially ended its participation in the Known Traveller Digital Identity project last April. It was a digital credential system designated for international travel by plane.

Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez took questions on a digital ID pilot with the World Economic Forum (WEF) that never took flight.

The department “officially ended its participation in the Known Traveller Digital Identity, or KTDI, project in April 2023,” Rodriguez said last Wednesday.

The minister was responding to an order paper question from Conservative MP Leslyn Lewis.

KTDI was a digital credential system designated for international travel by plane. “The KTDI Project never launched,” he said.
