Just go shopping and leave some food, clothes, or whatever at his place "for you to use" when you come to visit.
Or - - if you need the tax deduction, donate to a qualified charity on the condition that they help this guy out with groceries, clothes, and health care every month.
There are ways, just use the legal loopholes in the system.
