Looking at the flight history of the jet. Would guess that the stop in Bangkok was dictated by flight crew log book hour regulations. Sleep period for pilots required. Otherwise certainly could have flown on to Saipan. Perhaps needing only a short stop for fuel. Perhaps direct from London non-stop.

Did a little more research on all variants of the BOMBARDIER BD-700 Global 6000/6500. Including the longest range version. None can make the flight to Saipan non-stop from London.
