It is protocol for the king to walk behind the visiting head of state/dignitary when inspecting the guard troops.
It is considered extremely rude for the head of state to walk in front of their honoured guest in such situations.

Unlike some people round these parts I understand basic military diplomatic protocol.
If you check the images where the Queen is walking in front you will find that she is inspecting foreign troops during the many state visits she carried out around the world.
