The US has air superiority over Canada (NORAD) and the 10th Mountain Division could be in Ottawa by dark if they left now. It's just more convenient that they don't invade.
Mind you Canadians own more long guns per capita, but it would really be like Anschluss if the US decided to come north. Some of the city folk hate Trump but the armed rural folk don't.
