On Thursday, two Jewish journalists are expected to moderate the first debate between former President Donald Trump and Democratic incumbent Joe Biden in preparation for this year’s presidential election.

Given Israel’s controversial operations in Gaza, the escalating tensions with Hezbollah on Israel's northern border, and the worsening antisemitism on college campuses, Israel has taken center-stage in media discourse.

CNN's Jake Tapper and Dana Bash are set to moderate the upcoming 90-minute debate in Atlanta. Both Tapper and Bash have reported extensively on the Middle East.

The candidate who gets a second term will decide the future of the US-Israel relations.

Netanyahu’s lawyer tells court PM can only testify in corruption trial in March 2025

Attorney say premier’s management of Hamas war means many months are needed to prepare him to take stand without compromising his legal rights; hearing on matter set for July 9

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s defense team told the Jerusalem District Court on Wednesday that due to his management of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, the premier will only be able to testify in his corruption trial starting in March of next year.

In a written submission to the court, Netanyahu’s lawyer Amit Hadad wrote that even in quiet times, “preparations to hear a defendant’s testimony on such a scale require a significant period of time.

“In the current reality, in which the defense is required to prepare the prime minister for testimony in the midst of war, the necessary period of time to do so in a way that doesn’t compromise his rights and defense is significantly longer,” he wrote.

The trial opened in May 2020 and, as things stand, is seen as unlikely to end before 2028-2029, including potential appeals.

Netanyahu has so far not taken the stand, though he has appeared in court on a handful of occasions. Proceedings have involved cross-examination of prosecution witnesses, but that phase is expected to end in the coming weeks. As the main defendant, Netanyahu should be the first to face cross-examination as the defense presents its witnesses in the three cases.

Local farmers threatened with water shutoff across 500,000 acres

Christopher, a local farmer, spoke about the issue in a viral new video.

"They want us to shut our water off," he exclaims, detailing how this mandate affects not just his farm, but potentially 500,000 acres of farmland statewide.

Christopher’s farms typically depend on surface water, but they also use three of their eight wells on a yearly basis. He detailed how farmers efficiently use the wells, even in times of drought. In 2021, precipitation levels were low across Idaho and farmers were unable to return a surplus of water back to the aquifer. Since then, water levels have bounced back, but it hasn’t stopped the Twin Falls Canal Company and the Department of Water Resources from taking action to limit what the farmers can use in the future.

Pornhub to flee five more states in the wake of age-verification laws protecting kids

The “adult” industry giant Pornhub recently announced in a blog post that it will cease operations in the states of Indiana, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, and Nebraska beginning next month.

In explaining their decision, Pornhub cited the conservative-leaning states’ new bipartisan age-verification laws aimed at protecting children from internet pornography – which countless studies have demonstrated is extremely harmful to youth development.

The company had previously blocked access to its site in several other states due to their passage of age-verification laws, which have become increasingly commonplace throughout the country in the past couple of years.

The states include Arkansas, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Utah, Virginia, and Texas.

In a June 12 blog post, Pornhub wrote: “In the context of these laws, age verification requires users to prove that they are 18+ to view adult content.”

Pornhub went on to claim that this “puts users’ privacy at risk.”

“It also creates a substantial risk for identity theft,” the company argued. “Age verification is a good thing, if done correctly,” but “the way these new laws are executed by lawmakers is ineffective.”

Later in its post, Pornhub tried to fend off the damage age-verification laws do to the porn conglomerate by deferring the responsibility of protecting children to “device” companies.

“The only viable solution that will make the internet safer, preserve user privacy, and stands to prevent children from accessing material harmful to minors is performing age verification at the source: on the device itself,” Pornhub’s post stated.

The X (formerly Twitter) account of Unusual Whales, a popular platform for retail traders, wrote that lawmakers from states “who supported age-verification laws said the rules would keep children from viewing explicit content.”

“For example, the Kentucky bill framed pornography as a ‘public health crisis’ with a ‘corroding influence’ on children,” the account reported.

Like other states’ verification laws, Kentucky’s measure passed with the support of lawmakers from both parties. Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear signed the bill into law in April.

Lavrov horrified by Israel's statement there are no civilians in Gaza

Moscow hopes that Israel will hear the voice of the world's overwhelming majority on the situation in Gaza, the top Russian diplomat said

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has described as scaring an Israeli official’s statement that there are no civilians in Gaza and all are terrorists there starting from three years of age.

While answering questions at the 10th international academic and expert forum Primakov Readings Lavrov drew attention to "the tragedy that is observed in Gaza and on the territory of the Palestinian National Authority."

He recalled that Moscow "immediately condemned the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack and categorically opposed the methods the Israeli leadership opted for to fight terrorists, thus violating all conceivable norms of international humanitarian law."

"I was very perturbed when Israel and [its leaders] began to argue that these methods are quite justified," Lavrov said. He also quoted an Israeli official who, when the world community called for sparing civilians in Gaza, uttered something like "there are no civilians there, they are all terrorists starting from the age of three."

"These are terrible words," Lavrov stated.

Moscow hopes that Israel will hear the voice of the world's overwhelming majority on the situation in Gaza, Lavrov said. He shared some details of his recent telephone conversation with his Israeli counterpart, Israel Katz.

"We had a very detailed and frank conversation with him. I hope that they will heed the voice of the overwhelming majority of the world's countries," Lavrov said.

He drew attention to the fact that the world’s majority pointed out that Israel’s actions ran counter to international humanitarian law: while stressing the need for eliminating the Palestinian radical movement Hamas Tel-Aviv was in reality destroying Gaza.

Lavrov pointed to the West's double standards regarding the Ukrainian conflict and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: "The double standards that are now manifesting themselves are very telling."

In particular, Lavrov quoted some statistics: 35,000 Palestinian civilians were killed during the six-month operation in Gaza, and more than twice as many were wounded, while the number of civilians who fell victim to the war in Donbass on both sides over 10 years was 33% smaller.

"The whole pathos of our Western colleagues is aimed at inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia: stop Russia, make it pull back to the 1991 borders, and the war will immediately stop. Is this what serious grown-up people are saying? It’s ridiculous," Lavrov said.

Creation of Palestinian state

At the same time, he emphasized that Russia has "good relations with Israel" and Moscow has always advocated "the need for ensuring Israel’s security in any circumstances." However, the Russian foreign minister recalled that "for many decades, the right of the Palestinians to their own state, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly, was blocked and ignored, and the territory that was allocated for the Palestinian state was shrinking like a shagreen skin."

"Now, if you look at what Palestine actually controls, it is very difficult to imagine how on these tiny plots of land it will be possible to form something called a state," Lavrov noted.

"Or try to start talking about the creation of a Palestinian state. If this remains on the international community's agenda, as it should be, then look at the situation on the ground and at the territories that the Palestinian National Authority now controls in reality," Lavrov said.

Speaking about Russia's actions, he recalled that "long before the current tragedy Moscow was pressing for Palestinian unity," and over the past 10 years repeatedly gathered all Palestinian factions in Moscow, persuading them to pool efforts and to present a common front at negotiations with Israel, which "should be direct and should be resumed."

Lavrov cited last February’s meeting at which Palestinian factions for the first time adopted a joint statement of intent to unite on the basis of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Charter.

In his very brief opening statement, the WEF founder said that the participants must “force” humanity into a “collaboration” with the unelected globalist organization.

He asserted that all aspects of civilization, from nations and their governments and cultures to all areas of industry and society must be forced into complying with the WEF’s vision for a more “resilient future.”

“To drive future economic growth we must embrace innovation and force the collaboration across sectors, regions, nations, and cultures to create a more peaceful, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient future,” Schwab declared.

“At this critical juncture the active participation of all stakeholders is essential to ensure a sustainable development path,” he added.

Denmark is set to become the world’s first country to place a levy on greenhouse gasses produced by livestock

Denmark is set to impose a new tax on farmers over greenhouse gases produced by their livestock, Taxation Minister Jeppe Bruus has announced. The toll on cow, pig, and sheep emissions will be implemented starting in 2030, according to the minister.

The new tax is expected to greatly contribute to the country’s goal of reducing emissions by 70% from 1990 levels by the end of the decade, as well as ultimately attaining carbon neutrality, Bruus explained.

“We will take a big step closer in becoming climate neutral in 2045,” the minister stated, praising the measure as a way for Denmark to become “the first country in the world to introduce a real CO2 tax on agriculture.”

Livestock farmers will be taxed 300 kroner ($43) per ton of carbon dioxide equivalent produced by their animals. However, this will initially be subject to an income tax deduction of 60%.
