Aerostar, a company that designs and manufactures stratospheric balloons and airships for near-space use, says usually the balloons are designed for scientific research.
A spokesperson for the company says it works closely with the Federal Aviation Administration and local authorities to track the location of the balloons.
According to Flight Radar 24, four balloons were launched Tuesday.
Two balloons from the Inyo/Kern Airport are flying between California and Nevada.

Aerostar said it's a thunderhead balloon.
These have controlled flight and long-duration capabilities.
