President Biden’s re-election campaign tried to calm nerves and quash calls for him to exit the 2024 White House race Wednesday by firing off an all-staff memo showing the Democrat within striking distance of Donald Trump in some polls.

The memo, obtained by Politico, highlighted internal polling in battleground states before and after the first presidential debate June 27, when Biden alarmed millions of viewers over his poor performance — repeatedly losing his train of thought and struggling with what to say.

Trump and Biden were both polling at 43% before the debate, according to the internal numbers.

Dog cruelly abandoned on side of ‘treacherous’ Long Island highway tied to a pole with note by her side

A heartless pet owner abandoned their 4-year-old dog on the side of a “treacherous” Long Island highway on Monday, authorities said.

Several drivers called police after spotting the poor pooch tied to a light pole on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 21 around 5:30 a.m, New York State Police Captain Timothy Gleason told The Post.

Responding troopers found the white mastiff, along with a note and a bowl of food, said Gleason.

GM will pay $146M in penalties because 5.9M older vehicles emit excess carbon dioxide

General Motors will pay nearly $146 million in penalties to the federal government because 5.9 million of its older vehicles do not comply with emissions and fuel economy standards.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a statement Wednesday that certain GM vehicles from the 2012 through 2018 model years did not comply with federal fuel economy requirements.

The penalty comes after the Environmental Protection Agency said its testing showed the GM pickup trucks and SUVs emit over 10% more carbon dioxide on average than GM’s initial compliance testing claimed.

The EPA says the vehicles will remain on the road and cannot be repaired.

Retired major general found dead at Twentynine Palms Marine Base, NCIS investigating

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is conducting an investigation into the death of a retired major general whose body was found at the Marine base in Twentynine Palms.

The body of retired Maj. Gen. William Mullen, 59, was found in a building at the Marine base on Saturday, according to the San Bernardino County coroner's office.
