that monument was one of the 'stoners spots' in Boston back when people would have to find a hidden localle to toke up.
the statues never had heads, for years and years and years heads were missing.
but then the producer Speilberg made a movie about the Civil War Negro soldiers who were supposedly memorialized by that statue and . . . suddenly it became a thing. They got replacement heads.
the reason that was so useful for toking up was because you could walk around the back if you saw some police coming (which they never did when I was there. It has four sides and it's on the top of a hill.
anyway, nice place.
