That's actually a mistranslation, a purposeful one I believe.

Since the Old Testament mentions how the Edomites, descendants of Esau, invade and occupy Israels land of Judah and Jerusalem post 586 BC, being the Babylonian captivity of Judean Israelites, it is the Edomites who become called Jews.

However the mistranslation construes that Israelites and Jews are the same people/nation and convolutes both nations as one.

What Jesus is really saying is that the Edomites are pretending to be Israelites, Gods actual Chosen People.

In the book of Kings when the aggression is happening against Israel by Edom, King David describes them as Satan. This is what Christ is referencing.
