FOUR ISRAELIS & AMERICANS WOUNDED IN HEZBOLLAH RETALIATORY ATTACKS
Hezbollah carried out a series of attacks on July 6, targeting key positions of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in response to the ongoing war on the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip and to the recent assassination of one of its air defense specialists.
In separate statements, the group said it fired dozens of rockets at the 2024 Nimra Base west of the Sea of Galilee and the Mount Meron air traffic control base, targeted Israeli troops in the site of Birkat Risha with guided missiles, struck surveillance equipment in the al-Rahib site and shelled the sites of Bayad Blida and al-Baghdadi.
The IDF confirmed that Hezbollah launched some 20 rockets at the Lower Galilee, where the 2024 Nimra Base is located. A rocket that landed near the settlements of Kfar Zeitim during the attack seriously wounded a man. Multiple fires were also reported in the area. This was Hezbollah’s deepest rocket attack in Israel amid the war in Gaza.
The IDF also acknowledged that three people, a soldier and two American citizens, were wounded in the attack on Birkat Risha. One of the Americans is reportedly in a life-threatening condition.
The attacks represented a serious response by Hezbollah to the assassination of its member Maytham Mustafa al-Attar, which was claimed by the IDF. al-Attar was killed by a strike in the northeastern Lebanese district of Baalbek a day earlier. The IDF alleged that he was a prominent air defense specialist of Hezbollah.
The IDF responded to Hezbollah’s attacks by striking targets of the group in the southern Lebanese towns of Ayta al-Shaab, Maaroub and Naqoura. No casualties were reported by Lebanese media, however.
