WATCH Russian military inspect Ukrainian ‘chemical weapons lab’

Moscow said the facility was apparently used to make the highly toxic hydrogen cyanide

The Russian Defense Ministry has released footage of military personnel inspecting what it says is a Ukrainian makeshift laboratory used to produce dangerous substances that can potentially be used as chemical weapons. Moscow previously insisted that it found evidence of Kiev violating the Chemical Weapons Convention.

On Monday, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who leads Russia’s chemical and biological defense forces, said that the facility was discovered near the town of Avdeevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The town was liberated by the Russian forces in February.

According to Kirillov, traces of sulfuric acid and sodium cyanide as well as cyanide anions – poisonous chemical compounds of the cyano group – were found at the site. Sulfuric acid and sodium cyanide can be used to produce hydrogen cyanide – a highly toxic agent that was used as a chemical weapon during World War I.

Footage released by the military shows a serviceman wearing a hazmat suit and a gas mask collecting samples from various pieces of equipment and containers. He examines a glass jar containing what looks like a yellowish solid substance. A large piece of equipment that appears to be a chemical reactor is also seen in the video.

The Russian serviceman in the video is using a portable chemical analyzer. The clip goes on to show the collected samples arriving at a Russian military site.

According to the MOD, the laboratory located in a partially destroyed building was filled with debris and had a large number of empty containers inside.

In his Monday briefing, Kirillov stated that the Russian military recorded at least two cases of possible use of hydrogen cyanide by Ukraine forces. In May 2024, civilians in the Avdeevka region showed symptoms consistent with hydrogen cyanide poisoning, he said. The general added that traces of the chemical were also found on ammunition fragments found in Russia’s Belgorod Region.

In 2022, Russia accused Ukraine of running a secret biological weapons program and having plans to obtain a nuclear weapon. Kiev has denied having any weapons of mass destruction. The US backed Ukraine, calling Russia’s claims “absurd.”

UK finances worst since 1945 – new chancellor

Rachel Reeves has blamed the Tories for wrecking the economy during their 14 years in power

The UK’s new Labour government has inherited the worst economy since the Second World War, the newly appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves has said. Reeves overtook the country’s finances after Labour won 412 out of the 650 seats in the House of Commons last week, ending the 14-year Tory rule.

“I have repeatedly warned that whoever won the general election would inherit the worst set of circumstances since the Second World War,” Reeves said in a speech at the Treasury on Monday.

“We face the legacy of 14 years of chaos and economic irresponsibility,” she said, accusing her Tory predecessors of acting out of “political self-interest” as part of a “government that put party first, country second.”

“New Treasury analysis that I requested over the weekend shows that, had the UK economy grown at the average rate of other OECD [Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development] economies this last 13 years, our economy would have been over £140 billion [$179 billion] larger,” Reeves said. “That’s money that could have revitalized our schools, our hospitals, and other public services,” the new chancellor said. “Growth requires difficult choices – choices that previous governments have shied away from.”

According to the Guardian, the UK’s deficit has reached the highest level since the 1960s under more than a decade of Conservative governments, while the country was badly affected by “shocks including Brexit, the Covid pandemic and the cost of living crisis.”

The International Monetary Fund projected in early July that the UK’s GDP will grow by 0.5% this year.

A Look At The Republican Platform: Border Security, The Economy, Immigration, Crypto, and Abortion.

The draft 2024 Republican Party platform was presented Monday to delegates on the convention‘s platform committee ahead of a final vote on adoption in Milwaukee next week. Entitled ‘America First:

A Return to Common Sense,’ the document outlines several core elements of former President Donald J. Trump‘s agenda should he retake the White House in November’s presidential election.

Border security, the deportation of illegal immigrants, ending the weaponization of the Department of Justice (DOJ), the protection of Social Security, fair trade, and election integrity are among the most prominent issues mentioned in the draft.

“Today we must once again call upon the same American Spirit that led us to prevail through every challenge of the past if we are going to lead our Nation to a brighter future,” the draft platform preamble reads. Striking Trump‘s trademark America First tone, it continues, laying out the former President’s “common sense” solutions to the border crisis, U.S. national security, inflation, and crime—among other issues.

AN AMERICA FIRST ECONOMY.

The draft platform offers a marked change from the globalist policies of the Republican Party of old. “Common Sense tells us clearly that if we don’t have Domestic Manufacturing with low Inflation, not only will our Economy—and even our Military Equipment and Supplies—be at the mercy of Foreign Nations, but our Towns, Communities, and People cannot thrive,” it states, adding: “Republican Party must return to its roots as the Party of Industry, Manufacturing, Infrastructure, and Workers.”

Addressing American energy, the draft document echoes Trump‘s calls to “unleash American Energy” as part of an effort to reduce inflation and ensure the nation’s energy independence.

Additionally, the platform’s pro-energy and pro-worker tone will likely help bolster Trump’s growing support among union households—a voter demographic the campaign sees as crucial to its victory in November. The National Pulse reported in June that Sean O’Brien, the president of the Teamsters Union, has accepted Trump‘s invitation to address the convention.

BORDER SECURITY.

Likewise, the draft document heavily focuses on border security and immigration. It reiterates former President Trump‘s words: “If we don’t have a Border, we don’t have a Country.” The platform states that the Trump White House will complete the border wall and enact enhanced screening of immigrants entering the United States through other avenues.Notably, the platform reinforces Trump‘s call to tackle the unprecedented number of illegal immigrants who have entered the country under Joe Biden through sweeping deportations—supported by a majority of Americans.

” We will start by prioritizing the most dangerous criminals and working with local Police,” the document reads before continuing: “We must not allow Biden’s Migrant Invasion to alter our Country.”

CRYPTOCURRENCY.

A Republican platform first, the draft addresses emergent technologies like cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence. “Republicans will end Democrats’ unlawful and unAmerican Crypto crackdown and oppose the creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency,” the document states. It adds:

“We will defend the right to mine Bitcoin, and ensure every American has the right to self-custody of their Digital Assets, and transact free from Government Surveillance and Control.”Additionally, on the subject of artificial intelligence, the draft signals the intent for America to compete on the global stage—seeing the technology as a national security issue and not just an economic one.

“We will repeal Joe Biden’s dangerous Executive Order that hinders AI Innovation, and imposes Radical Leftwing ideas on the development of this technology,” the platform reads, continuing: “In its place, Republicans support AI Development rooted in Free Speech and Human Flourishing.”

THE GOP IS STILL PRO-LIFE.

Lastly, while the platform did undergo some changes in the wake of the repeal of Roe v. Wade, the draft document reiterates the Republican commitment to the pro-life cause. “We proudly stand for families and Life,” the pro-life plank begins.

“We believe that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees that no person can be denied Life or Liberty without Due Process, and that the States are, therefore, free to pass Laws protecting those Rights.”

“We will oppose Late Term Abortion, while supporting mothers and policies that advance Prenatal Care, access to Birth Control, and IVF (fertility treatments),” the platform draft concludes

The polling by Emerson College shows Trump leading among independents with 42 percent of the vote, compared to Biden’s 38 percent. This is an inversion from last month when Biden led 43 percent to Trump’s 41 percent.

In addition, Biden‘s impaired debate performance appears to be dampening Democrat enthusiasmahead of November’s election.Nearly 80 percent of Republican respondents said they were extremely motivated to vote. Meanwhile, just 65 percent of Democrats and 63 percent of independent voters said the same.

The Emerson poll is one of the most stark data points showing the impact that Biden‘s public display of cognitive impairment has had on his campaign. In the wake of the June 27 debate, several leading Democratic lawmakers have pushed for Biden to step aside, ostensibly making Kamala Harris the nominee. However, the data shows former President Trump handily defeating Harris with 49 percent of the vote to the Vice President’s 43 percent.

In fact, should the Democrats force Biden out of the race, none of his potential replacements fare as well as the octogenarian Democrat, who currently trails Trump by three points. Trump would defeat Hillary Clinton in a rematch 48 percent to 41 percent. Meanwhile, Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) only musters 40 percent to Trump’s 48 percent. After calls for Biden to exit the 2024 presidential race among leading Democrats began to build over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, Biden on Monday issued a letter to members of his party insisting he will not leave the race. “We had a Democratic nomination process, and the voters have spoken clearly and decisively,” The National Pulse reported a defiant Biden stating. He added: “I have nearly 3,900 delegates, making me the presumptive nominee of our party by a wide margin.”

Following the letter to skittish Democrats on Capitol Hill, one of the most prominent House lawmakers backed down from calls that the octogenarian should abandon his re-election campaign. “Whether or not I have concerns is besides the point. He is going to be our nominee, and we all have to support him,” Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said following the Tuesday morning meeting.

Analysis: Electoral College Ratings Shift Trump’s Way Big Time

The fallout from President Biden’s poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump continued this week with a recent report showing that six states in the Electoral College have shifted in Trump’s favor.

The Cook Political Report released on Tuesday showed that three states —Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada — have moved from “toss-up” to “lean Republican” while two other states— Minnesota and New Hampshire — have moved from “likely” to “lean Democrat.” Also, Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District moved from “likely” to “lean Democrat.”

Dave Wasserman of the Cook Political Report said theElectoral Map shows that Trump has a “clear advantage” over Biden.

“The notion that the presidential [race] is a Toss Up was a stretch even before the debate,” Wasserman said on X.“Today, Trump has a clear advantage over Biden and a much more plausible path to 270 Electoral votes.”

Amy Walter, Editor-in-Chief for Cook Political Report, said that Washington insiders have expressed hope that the bad poll numbers will push Biden into announcing his exit from the ticket.

“Insiders we spoke with over the weekend saidthey expected a ‘deluge’ of Democratic congressional defections by Monday,” Walter said. “As of Tuesday morning, those desertions have amounted to no more than a trickle.

Even so, plenty of nervous down-ballot Democrats and donors are hoping that team Biden, confronted with worsening poll numbers and an aggressively antagonistic press corps, will see the writing on the wall and gracefully announce his exit from the contest. That possibility looks remote as of this writing.” (He will never sacrifice for his other democrats so they could win, even if he will never win, his ego has always been too big for his actual footprint on the planet)

“We can’t wave away the uncertainty of this moment, but we can try to soberly assess where things stand today, and where they are likely to go from here,” Walter added.

The report also showed that Trump has over a “3-point lead in Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada and Biden has less than a percentage point lead in Wisconsin and Michigan,” per the Washington Examiner, while Trump has a 0.7-point lead in Pennsylvania. Walter said that two-point shift in the race could be monumental.

“For example, if Trump were to win the national popular vote by three points, it would be a seven-point improvement from his 2020 showing,” Walter said. “In other words, any state or district that Biden carried by eight points or less would be competitive.”
