The king is necessary if our structure of society is to work, as all things which were created by human hands MUST be controlled by human hands lest we find ourselves enslaved by inhuman forces. That said… humans are not perfect, and kings are indeed human themselves, and so we sought other means of ensuring consistent rule. What we are seeing today is the logical conclusion of the system of society which was established in ancient times, as we develop the technology to enshrine their ideas in steel, of peace and social cohesion through domination by force of arms.

That's fair. Let me try to simplify if I can:

  1. Humanity created a system of control so we could build larger and stronger societies to confront the forces which threaten us, of our rivals and of nature itself.

  1. To prevent these systems from running amok we gave absolute authority to a single pious man.

  1. As it was ultimately impossible to ensure that kings would always be just, we removed their absolute power and divided it among councils.

  1. When society grew too large to manage everything with deliberate intent, we have turned to machines to extend our reach.

  1. Because we are not capable of accurately defining the full scope of human existence in machine code, these mechanical systems are threatening to wipe out all uncertainty to achieve the goals they have been tasked with.
