The Book of Esther is a book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament that tells the story of how the Judean queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai saved the Israelites from the plot of the wicked Haman1234. The book belongs to the section of the Hebrew Bible called the Ketuvim, or “Writings”12. The book covers a period of about 18 years during the reign of the Persian King Ahasuerus, or Xerxes I34. The book is read on the festival of Purim, which commemorates the deliverance of the Israelites12.
