Senate Appropriations Committee passes military package, includes $23 million for Fort Novosel
On Thursday, the U.S. Senate Appropriation Committee passed three bills out of committee focused on three areas going into fiscal year 2025.
Among those appropriations bills includes one for Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies, or MilCon-VA for short.
Highlights of the bill, which passed Thursday with a unanimous 27-0 vote, include billions of dollars in funding divided between discretionary, defense and nondefense needs.
“The investments this legislation makes in critical Department of Defense infrastructure will help to strengthen our national security, improve our military’s readiness and safety, and reduce maintenance costs,” Senator Susan Collins (R-ME). “The bill also supports much-needed funding to improve medical care and housing for our nation’s veterans.”
““Providing the resources our servicemembers and their families deserve and supporting our veterans by funding the medical treatment and benefits they have earned must always be a top priority for Congress. I’m pleased our bipartisan bill accomplishes both…,” said Senator John Boozman (R-AR), Ranking Member of the MilCon-VA Appropriations Subcommittee.
$19.3 billion of funding is being directed towards the Department of Defense military construction program. Over $78 million of that will be going towards military construction priorities in the state of Alabama, including $23 million for critical infrastructure and planning projects at Fort Novosel.
