I don't think POTUS is simply saying that they have a good relationship.
First of all, he said that Russia CONTROLS Germany. That is NOT a good relationship - not for Germany and not for U.S.
Secondly, he is saying why are we wasting money and military power defending you from Russia, and you Germany are investing in Russia's Energy Market!!!! What???
Third, why are you not trading with the U.S. for energy since we are not only spending money defending you, but we also are spending money defending the EU countries that you are a part of.
