Space Force announces space staff, international partnership

July 12, 2024

Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman announced a new addition to the Space Force headquarters staff, bringing a member of the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force to the organization.

Air Marshal Paul Godfrey took the position June 17 and will serve the U.S. Space Force as assistant chief of Space Operations for Future Concepts and Partnerships after three years as the first commander of the U.K. Space Command.

“This is a significant step forward in promoting closer cooperation with an important ally, and it exemplifies the kind of partnership we need to internalize as a service,” Saltzman said in a letter distributed to Guardians.

“AM Godfrey’s integration into a senior service staff is unprecedented, and it pushes the boundaries of what it means to be Integrated by Design.”

In his new role, Godfrey assumes the rank of air marshal, equivalent of lieutenant general, and will advise Saltzman in all matters related to the achievement of space superiority and resilience through international partnerships.

“The U.S. has a long history of international cooperation and collaboration in all domains, including space,” Godfrey said.

“Partnerships allow us to build trust, share information and truly integrate operations to maximize resilience and defend against aggressive behavior.

It is a real honor to serve in this new position alongside my U.S. counterparts to deepen allied relationships and promote safety and security in space.”

One of the Space Force lines of effort is “Partner to Win” – emphasizing the importance of mutually beneficial relationships across the international community, joint force and industry.

“Partnerships are integral to the success of the Space Force,” Saltzman added.

“We depend on the Air Force for vital infrastructure and mission support functions, we leverage commercial partnerships for technical acumen and a robust industrial base, and we rely on our international allies as critical force multipliers who expand our resilience and competitive advantage.”

Godfrey was the inaugural commander of the U.K. Space Command, which was established April. 1, 2021.

Prior to this role, he served in the Middle East within the U.S. Air Force’s Combined Air and Space Operations Center, was head of Carrier Enabled Power Projection for the U.K.’s Ministry of Defence, and was Station Commander of RAF Lossiemouth, a Typhoon base in Scotland.

He is also a previous exchange pilot with the U.S. Air Force, serving on the 55th Fighter Squadron, Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, from August 2000 to May 2003.

SecAF unveils portrait of first CMSSF

July 12, 2024

Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall unveiled a portrait of the first Chief Master Sgt. of the Space Force Roger A. Towberman, at the Pentagon alongside the honoree, July 9.

The portrait unveiling marks one of many historic firsts for a military service that was established less than five years prior, Dec. 20, 2019.

Towberman was sworn in as the U.S. Space Force’s second Guardian, April 3, 2020, by the service’s first Guardian, Chief of Space Operations Gen. John W. Raymond, and served until he retired from military service September 2023.

During his more than three years as CMSSF, Towberman was instrumental in developing the service’s core values, overseeing the stand up of three new service components, and updating the service’s approach to talent management, among many other accomplishments.

He served as an advisor to the chief of space operations and the secretary of the Air Force on all issues regarding the welfare, readiness, morale, proper utilization, and development of the Space Force.

"[Towberman] defined what it means to be an enlisted Guardian," Kendall said. "He led the adoption of Space Force core values and Guardian commitment.

Every Guardian will experience his influence to come — all the way down the line."

Towberman expressed his appreciation to the Space Force and Department of the Air Force for the tribute, highlighting some of the portrait’s elements for their symbolism and significance.

"This is an incredible honor, and I'm so happy to be a part of it," Towberman said. "Everything we did, we did to try to set the conditions for success."

Prior to becoming the first CMSSF, Towberman served 30 years in the Air Force, including as the command senior enlisted leader at U.S. Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

His portrait will be on a permanent display in the Pentagon.

There's some interesting paintings inside the Vatican … and it's worth taking a closer look at what's being depicted in the sky.

TMZ Studios has a new series, "Strange & Suspicious," now airing on a dozen FOX stations, where we explore unexplained and downright weird stories, and now we're combing over the artwork inside the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church.

In several paintings that are centuries old, there are some mysterious shapes in the heavens above … sparking comparisons to flying saucers.

The potential references to extraterrestrial craft are hidden in plain sight … some are subtle, and some are seemingly obvious … like the objects appearing to shoot beams down from the sky.

Of course, there were no flying objects of any kind way back when painters were creating these works … making this phenomenon even more interesting.

Some inside the Vatican are open to the possibility of alien life … making these mysterious paintings worth another look.

We try to answer all these UFO questions and more on "Strange & Suspicious" … plus bizarre phenomena and true crime.
