California’s Contra Costa County Severs Ties with ICE

Contra Costa County has reportedly become the latest county in Northern California in the past month to sever its contract with the federal government’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to jail illegal aliens at a Richmond jail over rising costs and pushback against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

Last month, the Sacramento County jail also severed ties with ICE. And in December, Monterey County cut ties to the law enforcement agency.

“There is not one single overriding issue that causes the termination of this contract,” Sheriff David Livingston said at a news conference in Martinez, California, on Tuesday, as reported by SFGate.com.

“The outstanding work by the over 1,000 employees of the office of the sheriff has been overshadowed by the attention the ICE contract brings, even though immigration is a matter of federal law,” Livingston reportedly added. “Managing protests in Richmond have become expensive and time-consuming for our staff.”

Yeah right … it's too too time consuming for a sheriff's office to bring criminals to justice. Much easier to just let them prey on the community, and put in an order for an extra 2 cases of beer for that backyard barbecue this weekend.

Well this is a twist … a minority Mayor voted into office after the city has already turned itself 3rd world look alike. Must be some new last phase, championing in the demolition crew to wipe it off the map for good.

San Francisco’s 1st black female mayor takes oath of office

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The first black female mayor of San Francisco made history Wednesday as she took the oath of office, vowing to help drug users and the homeless in a city that has come to embody extreme wealth and poverty.

In her inauguration speech, London Breed promised to build more housing in a city that has a woefully inadequate supply for the number of high-paying tech-related jobs it creates.

“The politics of ‘no’ has plagued our city far too long. Not on my block, not in my backyard,” the new mayor said. “I plan to change the politics of ‘no’ to the politics of ‘yes.'”

She also pledged to stand by immigrants fearing crackdowns from President Donald Trump’s administration and small-business owners struggling to get by in an expensive city.

Breed, 43, grew up in public housing and frequently talks about the tough love and support she had growing up, especially from her grandmother who raised her. She learned from mentors and neighbors who spotted potential early on and encouraged her to study hard. Now, she will earn an annual salary of $335,996.

“I stand at this podium today because a community believed in me. Because our city services looked out for me,” she said Wednesday. “Here in the city of St. Francis, we support one another.”

Well Katy dear … when you realize the Constitution was premised on human nature … and that never changes … you will be.

NBC’s Katy Tur Not Sold on ‘Strict Originalist View of Constitution’ Because it’s 2018

TUR: I do want to start with you, J.D. Based on where Americans stand on the issues, and Americans have really moved in a much more progressive direction over the years, do you think it’s appropriate to continue to take such a strict originalist view of the Constitution given it’s 2018 and not 1776? [The Constitution was written in 1787.]

VANCE: Well, I don’t know that Americans have become more Progressive on everything. Certainly, times have changed since 1776, but how you interpret the Constitution is ultimately different from what policy preferences you want.

This is a point conservatives make pretty often about the Supreme Court. Whether you want the laws to move in a progressive or conservative direction, the Supreme Court is a separate institution with a separate mandate under our constitutional structures.

For example, if you want abortion to be outlawed or you want abortion not to be outlawed, that is a question, and there’s an open debate around whether that question should be decided by the Supreme Court or that question should be decided by voters and state legislatures, and by federal legislators. That is a question to me about constitutional structure, not so much about policy preferences.

TUR: Well, the ark of history has shown that opinions have become more progressive and even just lately on the issues that are potentially going to come before the court or issues that have been ruled on relatively recently by the court.

Americans are more progressive. Look at the polling. Most Americans support Roe v. Wade, gun control. They are split whether states should be able to restrict firearm ownership. But when it comes to money and politics, a majority want the next Justice to support limits on campaign spending by corporations and unions that goes against the Citizens United position.

Delingpole: Trump’s Brexit Rebellion Catches Fire in the UK

President Trump really couldn’t have picked a better moment for his first official visit to the United Kingdom.

He likes a fight and when he steps off the plane in South East England tomorrow he’ll walk straight into the biggest brawl since Brexit. Britain is in turmoil. Democracy is at stake. And rather than do the polite, mimsy, diplomatic thing, Trump has already rolled up his sleeves and weighed into the fray by coming out on the side of Team Brexit.

Team Brexit, as I reported yesterday, is currently being led by Boris Johnson – the most senior politician to reject Prime Minister Theresa May’s despicable Bremain sell-out by resigning as her Foreign Secretary.
