When I heard 45 speak he told a very funny story about having to walk down a slippery ramp in very slick new leather shoes. It was funny, but he was clearly concerned about his image and embarrassing himself. The "shoes" stop and comments are exactly in line with his personality. While there may be way more to it, it does fit that he would be concerned with and say exactly that.
I thought it was very endearing…
