Russia accuses Ukraine of using chemical weapons
Moscow is keeping relevant international organizations informed about such incidents, Deputy FM Sergey Ryabkov has said
Ukrainian forces are deploying chemical weapons against Russian troops on the battlefield, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has said. He added that Moscow has amassed enough evidence to prove that Kiev is working with Washington to produce components for biological weapons.
In a commentary for the Russian Zvezda TV channel on Thursday, Ryabkov claimed that Kiev has been engaged in illegal activities related to chemical and biological warfare. However, he noted that it is necessary “to separate the issue of the use of chemical warfare agents, which we, of course register in the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” from that of biological weapons research.
The diplomat said that Russia was informing relevant international agencies about both issues and sends reports to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
Regarding the violations of the Biological Weapons Convention, Ryabkov stated that during the nearly two-and-a-half-year conflict the Russian military had collected “comprehensive, extensive material showing the full depth of cooperation between Washington and Kiev in this area.”

The little-known charity is backed by famous conservative donors, including the families behind Hobby Lobby and Uline. It’s spending millions to make a big political push for this election — but it may be violating the law.
A network of ultrawealthy Christian donors is spending nearly $12 million to mobilize Republican-leaning voters and purge more than a million people from the rolls in key swing states, aiming to tilt the 2024 election in favor of former President Donald Trump.
These previously unreported plans are the work of a group named Ziklag, a little-known charity whose donors have included some of the wealthiest conservative Christian families in the nation, including the billionaire Uihlein family, who made a fortune in office supplies, the Greens, who run Hobby Lobby, and the Wallers, who own the Jockey apparel corporation. Recipients of Ziklag’s largesse include Alliance Defending Freedom, which is the Christian legal group that led the overturning of Roe v. Wade, plus the national pro-Trump group Turning Point USA and a constellation of right-of-center advocacy groups.
ProPublica and Documented obtained thousands of Ziklag’s members-only email newsletters, internal videos, strategy documents and fundraising pitches, none of which has been previously made public. They reveal the group’s 2024 plans and its long-term goal to underpin every major sphere of influence in American society with Christianity. In the Bible, the city of Ziklag was where David and his soldiers found refuge during their war with King Saul.
“We are in a spiritual battle and locked in a terrible conflict with the powers of darkness,” says a strategy document that lays out Ziklag’s 30-year vision to “redirect the trajectory of American culture toward Christ by bringing back Biblical structure, order and truth to our Nation.”
Ziklag’s 2024 agenda reads like the work of a political organization. It plans to pour money into mobilizing voters in Arizona who are “sympathetic to Republicans” in order to secure “10,640 additional unique votes” — almost the exact margin of President Joe Biden’s win there in 2020. The group also intends to use controversial AI software to enable mass challenges to the eligibility of hundreds of thousands of voters in competitive states.
In a recording of a 2023 internal strategy discussion, a Ziklag official stressed that the objective was the same in other swing states. “The goal is to win,” the official said. “If 75,000 people wins the White House, then how do we get 150,000 people so we make sure we win?”
According to the Ziklag files, the group has divided its 2024 activities into three different operations targeting voters in battleground states: Checkmate, focused on funding so-called election integrity groups; Steeplechase, concentrated on using churches and pastors to get out the vote; and Watchtower, aimed at galvanizing voters around the issues of “parental rights” and opposition to transgender rights and policies supporting health care for trans people.
In a member briefing video, one of Ziklag’s spiritual advisers outlined a plan to “deliver swing states” by using an anti-transgender message to motivate conservative voters who are exhausted with Trump.
But Ziklag is not a political organization: It is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity, the same legal designation as the United Way or Boys and Girls Club. Such organizations do not have to publicly disclose their funders, and donations are tax deductible. In exchange, they are “absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office,” according to the IRS.
ProPublica and Documented presented the findings of their investigation to six nonpartisan lawyers and legal experts. All expressed concern that Ziklag was testing or violating the law.
The reporting by ProPublica and Documented “casts serious doubt on this organization’s status as a 501(c)(3) organization,” said Roger Colinvaux, a professor at Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law.
“I think it’s across the line without a question,” said Lloyd Hitoshi Mayer, a University of Notre Dame law professor.

Israeli Lawmakers Vote Against Palestinian Statehood
"In essence, the Israeli Knesset voted to continue to wipe Palestine off the map," said one critic.
While Israel's troops wage what has been widely decried as genocide on the Gaza Strip, Israeli lawmakers on Wednesday overwhelmingly passed a resolution opposing "the establishment of a Palestinian state" west of the Jordan River.
The measure passed Israel's legislature, the Knesset, 68-9. It was spearheaded by Knesset Member Zeev Elkin of New Hope - The United Right, who shared the key messages from the resolution on social media along with a photo of the final tally.

Since the Hamas-led October attack on Israel, Israeli forces have killed at least 38,794 Palestinians and wounded another 89,364, according to Gaza's Ministry of Health. Thousands more remain missing and believed dead beneath the rubble of bombed buildings.
In addition to destroying civilian infrastructure across the Hamas-governed coastal enclave, Israel has restricted the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, even as people starve and the remaining hospitals operate at a limited capacity.

‘Civil commission’ whose members include two retired generals and a former police commissioner intends to investigate failures before, during and following Hamas attack
With Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s repeatedly putting off the establishment of a state commission of inquiry to investigate the government’s failures that enabled the October 7 attacks, several groups representing survivors of the Hamas massacres and the families of those killed have announced the formation of an independent probe aimed at “reaching the truth and preventing the next disaster.”
At a press conference in Tel Aviv on Thursday, the survivors unveiled the lineup of their “civil commission of inquiry,” whose members include two retired generals, a former police commissioner and the author of the IDF’s official code of ethics.
Their mandate, organizers explained, will be to “carry out a complex and comprehensive investigative process, through the collection of testimonies and evidence,” leading to the publication of a report that can eventually form the basis of the work of a future state commission of inquiry.
The purpose of the independent probe will be “to exert broad public pressure for the establishment of a state commission of inquiry, and when this commission is established, the [civil] commission will halt its activities and will submit its findings to the chairman of the state commission,” they said in a statement — adding that the process will be overtly non-partisan.
Despite growing demands to do so, including from his own defense minister, Netanyahu has so far resisted forming a state commission of inquiry into the policy failings leading up to October 7 or the government’s handling of the war, even as the IDF has launched its own internal probes.

The first operational flight of the Prime Minister's new plane to the US, carrying an advance delegation and equipment for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at Congress in Washington, did not go smoothly.
During the flight, a crack was discovered in the windshield of the 25-year-old Boeing 767. This issue is common in 767 aircraft, and Boeing regulations allow continued flight with it. Upon the plane's return from the US, the windshield will be replaced by Israel Aerospace Industries technicians, who converted the plane and are responsible for its maintenance.
The issue will be fixed before Netanyahu departs for the US on Sunday, the Prime Minister's first flight on the plane. Netanyahu advocated purchasing an Israeli 'Air Force One' instead of renting an aircraft from Israeli airlines for each flight, which would lack special defense and communication measures.
However, the State Comptroller revealed in a report the flawed conduct of the project, which took a long time, underwent late and costly changes according to the demands of the Prime Minister's Office and the Shin Bet and exceeded its budget by more than 100 million shekels. Over 400 million shekels have been spent on the plane out of a budget of 729 million shekels approved for its purchase and operation over the first ten years.
To save costs, the plane was built using a used Boeing ER767-300 that had been in service with Australian airlines since 2000. The plane arrived in Israel in 2016, but the completion of the work was delayed due to the Netanyahu office's request to add a shower in the Prime Minister's suite and modify it for security and defense.
Due to Yair Lapid's opposition to using the plane, it remained unused during the Bennett-Lapid government. It was stored at the Nevatim Airbase, where an operational infrastructure was built for it. The plane was restored to operational status only when Netanyahu returned to the Prime Minister's Office. The Air Force began conducting training flights with it, and now it is entering service.

Nine members of high-risk drug trafficking organisations arrested in Montenegro
High Value Targets were members of some of the Western Balkan region’s most violent and dangerous drug trafficking organisations
This week, Montenegrin authorities have arrested nine High Value Targets holding key positions in Western Balkan drug trafficking organisations. In total, 19 individuals were targeted in this action. Four received charges while in prison, and five others are still on the run. This action is the result of national investigations, cooperation, and information exchange through Europol between the Australian Federal Police and New South Wales Police, the Montenegrin Special Police Division (Specialno Policijsko Odeljenje), and the United States Drugs Enforcement Administration (DEA). The investigation was initiated after law enforcement intercepted 1.8 tonnes of cocaine shipments from Europe to Australia between 2020 and 2021.
The targeted individuals were closely linked to various Montenegrin criminal cells active within a larger drug trafficking network spread across the Balkan region and beyond. Some of the suspects allegedly belong to one of the most notorious and violent Montenegrin clans, while others are suspected of leading their own independent criminal groups. One of the suspects, the leader of this criminal group, is allegedly responsible for multiple murders carried out during gang wars.
The nine suspects were already known by law enforcement authorities, as they had appeared in a number of previous drug trafficking investigations. Investigators have identified that the networks where they played leading roles had developed a large logistics network to facilitate drug trafficking from the EU to Australia. They were able to supply cocaine from source countries and transport it for final distribution in European and Australian end markets.

If one kilo of cocaine costs several thousand euros in the source countries, it could reach more than EUR 100 000 on the Australian black market.
Europol facilitated the exchange of information and provided continuous analytical support to the investigation. Europol also contributed to the overall case coordination among various agencies in the EU and beyond.
