United States Discloses Nuclear Warhead Numbers; Restores Nuclear Transparency
The Federation of American Scientists applauds the United States for declassifying the number of nuclear warheads in its military stockpile and the number of retired and dismantled warheads. The decision is consistent with America’s stated commitment to nuclear transparency, and FAS calls on all other nuclear states to follow this important precedent.
The information published on the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) web site today shows that the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile as of September 2023 included 3,748 nuclear warheads, only 40 warheads off FAS’ estimate of 3,708 warheads.
The information also shows that the United States last year dismantled only 69 retired nuclear warheads, the lowest number since 1994.
FAS has previously requested that the United States release the size of the US nuclear arsenal for FY2023, FY2022, and FY2021, but those requests were denied – potentially in contravention of U.S. law that only allows for classifying information if its release could reasonably result in damage to the US national security. Today’s decision demonstrates that these disclosures do not negatively affect U.S. security, and that future classification is not justified under US law.
With today’s announcement, the Biden Administration has restored the nuclear stockpile transparency that was created by the Obama administration, halted by the Trump administration, revived by Biden administration in its first year, but then halted again for the past three years.
While applauding the U.S. disclosure, FAS also urged other nuclear-armed states to disclose their stockpile numbers and warheads dismantled. Excessive nuclear secrecy creates mistrust, fuels worst-case planning, and enables hardliners and misinformers to exaggerate nuclear threats.

Nippon Steel hires Mike Pompeo to advise on U.S. Steel deal
Japan's biggest steelmaker, Nippon Steel Corp. (5401.T), opens new tab, has hired former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to help with its effort to acquire U.S. Steel (X.N), opens new tab, the Japanese company said on Saturday.
"We look forward to working alongside him to further emphasize the ways in which Nippon Steel's acquisition of U.S. Steel bolsters the country's economic and national security," Nippon Steel said in a statement to Reuters.
Japan's Kyodo news agency and Bloomberg, which first reported the appointment, said Pompeo had been hired as an adviser. Nippon Steel said in its statement that Pompeo had not been given a specific job title within the company.
The world's No. 4 steelmaker added that Pompeo, who served as secretary of state during Donald Trump's presidency, was a well-respected figure among both Democrats and Republicans.
The steelmaker issued its statement during the U.S. night.
Although both steelmakers have received all regulatory approvals outside of the United States for their proposed $14.9 billion merger, they face political opposition and regulatory scrutiny from within the United States.
Nippon Steel also faces objections from the powerful United Steelworkers (USW) union, which fears the deal could lead to job losses. The Japanese company has pledged to honour agreements between U.S. Steel and USW, while offering some other commitments as well.
Both Republican nominee Trump and President Joe Biden have said they would block the deal.
Nippon Steel's key negotiator on the deal, Vice Chairman Takahiro Mori, visited the United States this month, including U.S. Steel facilities, and met stakeholders and employees, the company said earlier this week.

Leftist ‘Voter Rights’ Group Tries to Suppress GOP Mail-In Voting

A leftist nonprofit that once claimed to fund “voter rights” initiatives to “restor[e] … and activat[e] all voices in the United States” was behind a deceptive anti-Trump ad campaign that tried to discourage his supporters from voting by mail.
Federal Election Commission records revealed that Global Impact Social Welfare Fund, a little-known dark money group, gave $50,000 to PA Values on June 14, 2024. Two days after the group donated the money, PA Values paid $48,000 for an ad that urged “MAGA PATRIOTS” to “stand strong WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP” against mail-in voting.
Even though Trump was skeptical of mail-in and absentee voting during the 2020 election, he started encouraging his supporters to vote by using those methods to “beat the Democrats,” the Washington Free Beacon reported.
The ad was criticized, and people started speculating about the origin of the cash behind it. Several years ago, PA Values received contributions from labor unions and the law firm of Sen. Bob Casey’s, D-Pa., brother. However, the organization had an empty bank account during this election cycle until the donation from the Global Impact Social Welfare Fund.
The Trump campaign accused the organization of election interference over the advertisement and called for law enforcement to investigate the matter.
A left-wing election law professor also called the ad “borderline criminal” and castigated PA Values for its “trickery and voter suppression.”
The Global Impact Social Welfare Fund previously released a mission statement to “empower social impact” in areas such as the environment, justice reform, racial and “gender” equity and “voter rights.” The organization is a subsidiary of Global Impact, a “philanthropy adviser” that operates Charity.org.
Global Impact Social Welfare Fund operates as a dark money group, which means it masks its donors’ identity. The company’s parent organization made the only traceable contribution: $8.9 million in 2023 out of a total of $22.4 million in donations that year. According to its most recent tax filing, the Global Impact Social Welfare Fund spent $3.3 million to support “voter rights and education programs.”

Pediatrician Raises Alarm over Bill Gates’ Plan to Vaccinate 500 Million Children by 2030
A prominent pediatrician is speaking out to warn the public about Bill Gates’s $11.9 billion plan to vaccinate a staggering 500 million children over the next few years.
The multi-billion dollar plan was recently announced by Gates’s organization Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
Gavi revealed that the $11.9B plan, which includes $9 billion in new funding, aims to vaccinate 500M children by 2030.
The organization says the kids will be vaccinated with existing shots and “new vaccines” that are currently in development.
