Former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt over the weekend at a rally in Pennsylvania; in April, nine House Democrats attempted to take away all Secret Service protection for him.

Just The News reports that Representative Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., who chaired the select committee to investigate the January 6 attacks, introduced a bill in April to strip Trump of his Secret Service detail. The bill was introduced on April 19 and has gone nowhere in the Republican- controlled House.

The bill was cosponsored by eight additional Democrats: Troy Carter of Louisiana, Barbara Lee of California, Frederica Wilson of Florida, Yvette Clarke of New York, Bonnie Watson Coleman of New Jersey, Jasmine Crockett of Texas, Joyce Beatty of Ohio, and Steve Cohen of Tennessee.

After Trump survived the shooting, one of the Democrat staffers, Thompson’s case manager and field director, Jacqueline Marsaw, posted on Facebook, “I don’t condone violence but please get you some shooting lessons so you don’t miss next time oops that wasn’t me saying that.” The post has since been deleted and the staffer has been fired.

A press release from Thompson stated: The Denying Infinite Security and Government Resources Allocated toward Convicted and Extremely Dishonorable Former Protectees Act, or the DISGRACED Former Protectees Act, would amend current law to terminate U.S. Secret Service protection for “those who have been sentenced to prison following conviction for a Federal or State felony – clarifying that prison authorities would be responsible for the protection of all inmates regardless of previous Secret Service protection.” ..

Vice President Kamala Harris promoted using paper ballots for elections the last time she was a presidential candidate, but since then, Democrats and the Biden administration have largely pushed back against election integrity laws that Republicans have promoted.

Five years ago, Harris was part of a bipartisan effort to encourage the use of paper ballots. However, since the 2020 presidential election, Democrats have called Republicans “election deniers” for promoting such election integrity measures, and the Biden administration is focusing on suing states with election integrity laws.

While on the presidential primary campaign trail in February 2019, Harris spoke at the Saint Anselm College’s New Hampshire Institute of Politics, giving her thoughts on funding infrastructure.

She mentioned that, under the Obama administration, the Department of Homeland Security designated elections as “critical infrastructure.”

Following Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election, she said she joined Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., on a bill that would help fund election infrastructure regarding paper ballots. ..
